Tulsa Defeats North Alabama to Move to 8-1 on the Season

STARKVILLE, Miss. —
 Chenise Delce picked up her first career save striking out two of the last three Lions batters to give Tulsa its 8th win of the season 3-2 over North Alabama. The victory was the Hurricane's fourth of the weekend closing out the Bulldog Kickoff Classic with a 4-1 mark.
 
Kassidy Scott drew the start in the circle for Tulsa throwing 4.1 innings only allowing 3 hits and one run, striking out five in the process. Samantha Pochop threw 1.2 innings in relief of Scott; she allowed 2 hits, a run and recorded 3 strikeouts, giving her a team-high 33 strikeouts on the season. Delce closed out the game in the 7th inning.
 
Tajiah Ellison started the game off strong for the Hurricane, hitting a leadoff triple in the 1st inning. Ellison scored on an RBI groundout by Delce, giving Tulsa the early 1-0 lead.

The Hurricane pushed over two more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Starting things off for Tulsa with two outs was Alexis Perry who drew a walk. Kylie Norwood reach on an error by the second baseman, and Aubree Seaney walked to load the bases for Mikayla Whitten. Whitten drove a double to left center scoring Perry and Norwood for a 3-0 lead.
 
The Lions started the top of the 5th by putting a runner on first off of an infield error. The runner advanced into scoring position on a groundout to second. With two outs, the Lions' runner stole third and then scored on a single to center field. North Alabama sent a triple to left field cutting the Hurricane lead to 3-2.
 
The victory was Scott's 11th of her career as a Hurricane. Ellison finished the game 2-for-4 with one run, while Perry, Kari Briggs and Whitten each had a hit. Whitten had a team-high 2 RBIs with her double in the third inning.
 
Up Next
Tulsa will travel to Waco, Texas for the Baylor Invitational next weekend, Feb. 21-23. The Hurricane will open against Minnesota on Friday, Feb. 21, at 11:15 a.m., then immediately play host Baylor at 3:45 p.m.
