WACO, Texas – In the second day of the Baylor Invitational, the RV/ Tulsa Golden Hurricane (8-4) fall to the -/RV Illinois Fighting Illini 1-0.
Kassidy Scott drew the start for the Hurricane in the circle. The senior threw 6.0 innings, allowing two hits and a run. She struck out two facing 19 Fighting Illini batters.
Down one run in the final inning of play, Alexis Perry doubled to left center putting the tying run on second for the Hurricane. Kylie Norwood pushed the tying run to third on a sacrifice bunt. Tulsa stranded the runner on third as a foul out to first base and a pop-up to shortstop ended the game.
To start the bottom of the 4th Illinois used an error by Kylie Norwood to put a batter at first base. Scott forced a double play to record two outs in the inning; however, a walk and wild pitch gave Illinois a runner on second with two outs. The next Fighting Illini batter drove a double to right field, scoring the winning run for Illinois. Tajiah Ellison gunned down the runner from right field as the Illini attempted to stretch a double into a triple.
The Hurricane, with two outs in the top of the 2nd, drew a walk to give Tulsa its first base runner of the day. Aubree Seaney continued the inning singling to center field, moving Sarah Briers to second; however, the inning ended there as the next Hurricane batter flied out to center field.
Tulsa returns to the diamond tomorrow, Feb. 23, to conclude the last day of the Baylor Invitational. The Hurricane will start the day squaring off against #17/13 Minnesota at 9:00 a.m. before facing Texas State at 1:00 p.m.
