Rebecca Lescay recorded a career-high 23 points, while Destiny Johnson added 10 points, but it wasn't enough as Tulsa dropped a 70-61 decision to Wichita State on Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.  The Golden Hurricane fell to 7-20 on the season and 2-12 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Shockers moved to 15-12 overall and 7-7 in the league.

TU's biggest struggles on the night came at the free throw line, hitting just 14-of-29 attempts for 48-percent, while WSU hit 11-of-19 attempts for 57-percent.  The Golden Hurricane shot 41-percent from the field and 50-percent from behind the arc, compared to the Shockers' 42-percent from the field and 38-percent from three-point range.

"It is all about the missed free throws," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "We got to the line 29 times, which we haven't done that in a while, and against this team we needed to attack and get ourselves to the line, but I guess we forgot to mention that you have to make them when you get there.  Our guys competed.  We missed some key shots in the fourth quarter.  We were shooting pretty well until the fourth quarter.  We are going to continue to challenge our players, continue to get better, and continue to see improvements."

Kendrian Elliott and Addison Richards both added eight points, while Elliott pulled down a team-best 15 rebounds and had three blocks. KK Rodriguez added six points and had a team-best four steals.

Tulsa owned a 14-11 lead in assists, a 4-3 edge in blocks and a 10-9 advantage in steals, while WSU had a 43-38 lead in rebounds.

There were four lead changes and three tied scores in the first six minutes of the game, with the Golden Hurricane owning an 11-10 lead at the 3:49 mark, but then the Shockers went on a 7-2 run to close out the first frame with a 17-13 advantage.

WSU took a seven-point lead, 26-19, at the 6:14 mark of the second quarter, but TU battled back to claim a 27-26 advantage with 2:08 on the clock.  The two teams were tied, 29-29, but a three-pointer by Ashley Reid with two seconds remaining gave the Shockers a 32-29 lead at halftime.

After having just three steals in the first half, the Golden Hurricane recorded five steals in the first 2:14 off the clock in the third quarter, and outscored WSU, 7-0 to claim a 36-32 lead at the 7:44 mark.  The Shockers then went on a 7-2 run to take back the lead with a 39-38 score with 5:29 on the clock.

TU netted the next six points for a 44-39 lead at the 4:25 mark, the score was tied at 48-48 with 1:15 to play in the frame and the Shockers owned a 51-49 lead with one quarter remaining.

TU tied the score twice in the final quarter, including a 51-51 score at the 8:37 mark and a 54-54 score with 6:03 to play in the contest.  WSU climbed to a game-high nine-point lead on free throw made by Seraphine Bastin for the final score.

The Shockers were led by Reid with 13 points, while Bastin and DJ McCarty both added 12 points.  Bastin pulled down a team-best 15 rebounds and had four assists, while Raven Prince had three blocks and Shyia Smith had four steals.

Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, February 29 at Temple beginning at 1:00 pm Central in Philadelphia, Pa.
