Tulsa Football Adds One to Signing Class

2/5/2020 12:42:00 PM | Football

TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa football program added to its signing class today with the addition of one student-athlete, said Head Coach Philip Montgomery.

The Golden Hurricane added junior college safety LJ Wallace from Iowa Western Community College, where he spent one season after spending the 2018 campaign at the University of Colorado as a true freshman.

In 2019, Wallace registered 17 tackles and two pass breakups in 6 games for the No. 4-ranked Iowa Western Reivers.

"LJ is a guy with some experience and has the length that we're looking for," said Montgomery. "He can cover ground and is a great tackler in space. He brings an experience factor to the backend of our defense."

Wallace was a three-year starter at Buhach Colony High School in Atwater, Calif. He had 130 tackles and four interceptions in his three seasons. As a senior, Wallace amassed 60 tackles and one interception in 11 games. He was ranked by Scout.com as one of the top-40 safeties in the country as a prep senior.

The addition of Wallace gives Tulsa 22 newcomers to the Hurricane roster in 2000, including 10 players on the defensive side of the ball, 11 on offense and one kicker.  The class now includes three 4-year transfers, four JUCO transfers and 15 high school student-athletes.
