TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa football team returned to the practice field on Tuesday afternoon to continue preparations for the September 12 season opener at Oklahoma State.
"Today was good. I thought our guys came out and were able to get some really good work done as we added some new things. The temperature helped us, so it was a little bit cooler. Our energy level and our focus was good today," said Tulsa Head Coach Philip Montgomery. "Guys are continuing to learn and we need to continue to get into better game shape."
Montgomery talked about returning to the practice field today after reviewing the film from Saturday's scrimmage.
"There were some high points and some things we need to continue to work on from Saturday's scrimmage, but it's not from a lack of effort. We've missed some days of practice, obviously, so we have a little installation left to do. But I thought it was a really good teaching tape for us.
said Montgomery.
The American Athletic Conference announced the league's preseason media poll earlier in the day. UCF was picked as the league champion, while Tulsa was picked ninth. Among the top-4 picks in the preseason poll, Tulsa defeated No. 1 UCF last year, and dropped close decisions to the next three preseason picks, who all were top-25 ranked teams last year, including # 21 Cincinnati (24-13), #25 Memphis (42-41) and #24 SMU (43-37 in overtime).
The Tulsa-OSU game will kick-off at 6:30 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium in less than two weeks.
