Spotlight on Senior Adam Higuera
#42 Adam Higuera • 6-1 • 224 • Senior • Long Snapper
My favorite part of football ...
It's the brotherhood and unity of being with your teammates. Being able to meet a lot of different guys from different parts of the country and then we all go to work for one common goal.
Sports I played in high school …
I only played football in high school all four years, and just played long snapper.
Why I became a long snapper …
When my brother attended Tulsa as a long snapper he came home after playing in the 2012 Liberty Bowl with all the bowl gear. I was in 8th grade, and I was kind of star struck. I told my dad from that point on that this is what I wanted to do, and I wanted to do it for a scholarship. So, my dad said 'ok, be prepared. You won't have any social life and you'll be working out 5 days a week'. I was okay with that.
How I learned to long snap …
Ben Bernard is a long snapping coach in north Phoenix. I lived an hour from where we trained so every day after school my dad would pick me up drive me into Phoenix and we'd lift and train until I was old enough to drive myself. I trained every weekday in the off-season for -2-3 hours a day from 8th grade through my senior year. I look back at it now and I may have missed out on some things in high school, but I was able to get my college paid for and that's all that mattered to me.
When I graduate …
I want to pursue the NFL, but after that I'll return home and join the fire department and work with my dad, captain Reymundo Higuera Jr., a 32-year veteran. Rey Jr. was a member of FEMA during 911 and went to ground zero where he served as a Search and Rescue Diver, where he went into the rubble.
The secret of being a long snapper …
Staying in the background. Repetition, I guess, is the answer. It's natural. Like throwing a baseball. I try to have as much fun as I can. I don't worry about good snaps or bad snaps.
Favorite NFL player …
Nick Sundberg is the deep snapper with the Washington Football Team. He's one of the many people Coach Bernard trained, and I had the privilege to train with him throughout high school. Every one of those deep snappers in the room with me –– there was 20 and sometimes 30 guys –– our coach just tuned us and refined us. It got to a point that Nick, who was from that neighborhood, a 6-1, 250-pound guy, made it, and that gave me a lot of hope. He was just an ordinary athlete. I thought that I can just work hard at this one thing. I didn't have to do anything special.
My role model …
It's my grandpa, Reymundo Higuera Sr. He was born on a mine with no documented birth certificate in the mountains of Arizona. He worked in a labor camp in Gilbert, Arizona, and basically built all my family has. He's always been my role model.
What I like to do outside of football …
I love fishing. I go as much as I can. My favorite place in Tulsa to fish is Camp Lockeridge by The Oaks Country Club. We catch largemouth bass there.
My twitter handle …

The hastag I live by is …
#sendit. That just means that I need to put in 110% in everything I do.
Returning to the site of my first career game where I scored a touchdown …
It was exciting to score a touchdown off a fumbled punt in the end zone at OSU. It was 100% a thrill. I was so excited that I ran off the field and had to be grabbed to run out to snap for the extra point. It seems like at least once a week someone brings it up to me. It's kind of been a running joke with my brother, Rey. He sent me a text at halftime saying 'you're the luckiest person'.
