Tulsa's fifth-ranked men's soccer team battled SMU to a 0-0 double overtime tie on Wednesday night at the Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The Golden Hurricane moved to 11-1-1 on the season and 5-1-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Mustangs moved to 7-3-3 overall and 4-3-1 in the league.
"I thought we moved the ball well, our possession was good, we were good on defense and our back line was solid," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We could have been a little better with the final ball or created a few more chances or have taken our chances better, but our guys kept a high level of concentration, they worked exceptionally hard and I am proud of their mentality. Of course we are disappointed we didn't get the result we wanted but we just have to learn, grow and get better before the next one."
Austen Schweinert had a team-best four shots, while Ben Barkley added three attempts, and Mariano Fazio, Henry Sach and Alvaro Torrijos all recorded two shots. Alex Lopez logged all 110 minutes in goal and picked up two saves.
SMU had an 18-17 lead in shots, but it was the Golden Hurricane that had a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, October 31 against Temple beginning at 6:00 pm in Philadelphia, Pa.
