TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa men's basketball team welcomed the University of Kansas for a closed scrimmage on Saturday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
The Golden Hurricane and Jayhawks played two 20-minute halves and then a reserves scrimmage before working on situational and late-game plays.
"It was a really good experience for our guys to get out and play against someone else, and especially someone as good as Kansas," head coach Frank Haith said. "They'll be one of the best teams in the country. I thought our guys fought hard and competed. I saw some good things. Saw some things we need to work on. You're playing a team as athletic, as big and as strong as they are, you got to be able to adjust to the way the game is being played. I think that's a good learning experience for us.
"I want to thank Bill [Self] for coming over here. It was good seeing him back here in Tulsa. Like I said, I think they're going to have a great year. They're going to be one of the best teams in the country."
The Hurricane hosts Northeastern State in an exhibition Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 7:00 p.m. The 2021-22 campaign starts in earnest on Nov. 10 against Northwestern State at the Reynolds Center with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
