TULSA, Okla. — Despite a 34-point performance by David Green, the Tulsa men's basketball team fell to South Florida, 93-78, on Saturday at the Reynolds Center. It was a career-high performance for the graduate student, which included 27 points in the second half.
Green continued to be a force for the Golden Hurricane, scoring his 34 points on 10-of-15 shooting, 4-of-7 from three, and was 10-of-12 from the free throw line. He also led the team with eight rebounds and had a block. He was 8-of-11 from the field in the second half, 4-of-5 from three, and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. Over his last four games, Green is averaging 23.8 points on .717 shooting.
Miles Barnstable contributed 14 points, including three three-pointers, and added four assists. Tylen Riley posted 10 points and collected three rebounds. Tyler Behren added six points, three rebounds, and three assists.
The game began with Tulsa quickly finding their rhythm, countering South Florida's early three-pointer with Green's layup. Tulsa maintained a competitive edge through efficient free-throw shooting, converting 13-of-16 attempts, and leveraging their bench for 8 points. Barnstable contributed significantly with multiple three-pointers, helping Tulsa initially take the lead at several points.
However, the Bulls utilized their perimeter shooting, making 10 three-pointers, and capitalized on turnovers to regain control. Despite a robust offensive effort from Tulsa, highlighted by Riley's consistent scoring in the paint, the Bulls ended the half with a strong push, extending their lead with late three-pointers. The half closed with South Florida leading 51-36.
Tulsa started the second half attempting to close the gap with South Florida. Tyler Behrend's dunk at 18:31, assisted by Ade Popoola, provided an early momentum boost. Green added a layup in transition at 17:13, narrowing the deficit to 55–40. Despite these efforts, the Bulls maintained their lead with quick responses.
Tulsa continued to fight back as Green emerged as a key player, contributing a couple of three-pointers and a series of free throws to keep the game competitive. At 10:22, Green's three-pointer, assisted by Barnstable, brought the score to 70–60. However, South Florida consistently countered with timely baskets, sustaining their advantage.
As the half progressed, Tulsa showed resilience with intermittent scoring from Green and Riley, who added free throws in the final moments. Despite Tulsa's scoring efforts, South Florida matched them point for point, and the half concluded with both teams scoring 42 points each, leaving the final score at 93–78 in favor of South Florida.
Tulsa is on the road next week as they begin a stretch of three of the next four away from the Reynolds Center. They'll open the week at Charlotte on Wednesday.
