TULSA, Okla. –– University of Tulsa Head Football Coach Philip Montgomery announced today that the Golden Hurricane has inked 12 student-athletes to national letters-of- intent on the first day of the early signing period.
Tulsa added seven newcomers on the offensive side of the football, four on defense and one special team's player. The Hurricane will continue to add to this class in the February signing period.
Six different states –– Alabama, California, Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas –– and the country of Australia are represented among this class of signees.
"I'm really pleased with our class," said Montgomery. "For us to continue to keep building and growing and getting our program to the level we want it to be, we need to keep bringing in strong classes like this one."
The Hurricane added four receivers, two linemen and one quarterback to the offense. Defensively, Tulsa inked one defensive back, one lineman and two linebackers and a long snapper for special teams.
"We added a couple young offensive linemen that will fill a need for us. We have some young receivers who are really talented and added a JC receiver that will add immediate depth and potential explosiveness to our receiving corps," Montgomery said.
Daniel Ademisoye from California and Texas' Lubbock Cooper's Tanyon Zachary add size and depth to the offensive line. Three prep receivers, all from Texas –– Charles Hodge IV, Keith Wheeler II and Devan Williams –– and junior college transfer Nick Rempert, from Illinois and Tyler (Texas) JC, along with quarterback Cardell Williams round out the offensive class for the Hurricane
Defensively, we continued to add size and speed in this class. We added strength up front, a couple of linebackers and a corner who we think will be one of the best that we've had here," added Montgomery. "We lose quite a few older linebackers from this season, so we have to keep building our depth there."
One of the top seniors in the state of Kansas, interior lineman Tai Newhouse, is Tulsa's lone defensive line addition. Two local products –– cornerback NuNu Campbell from Tulsa's Holland Hall High School and Tahlequah High School's Eli McWilliams –– are the two Oklahomans in this early signing period.
Tulsa also went to the land down under with a second Australian joining the Hurricane roster as linebacker Zach Neilsen played at Albany Creek State in Brisbane, Australia. Tulsa punter Lachlan Wilson is from Australia.
Long Snapper Connor Cook, from Dothan, Ala., is Tulsa's lone special teams' signee to this year's class, filling a void that has been made with the graduation of five-year starter Adam Higuera.
The second national signing day is Wednesday, February 3.
