TULSA, Okla. ––
The Tulane Green Wave used 15 and 11-0 runs to take control of the game and held on for a 58-48 win over Tulsa Wednesday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Brandon Rachal had his fifth double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Hurricane, while Elijah Joiner added 9 points. Tulane was led by Jaylen Forbes and Jadan Coleman with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Tulsa dropped its third consecutive home game and fell to 9-9 overall and 6-7 in American Athletic Conference play, while Tulane improves to 8-7 and 3-7. The last time Tulsa lost three straight home games came in the 2016-17 season.

The Green Wave win snapped an 8-game Tulsa winning streak in the series and now gives the Hurricane an overall 25-7 record against Tulane.

Tulsa began the second half on a 10-0 run to cut its halftime deficit from 13 to 4 points at 38-35 on a Joiner layup off a turnover at the 16:08 mark. Jadan Coleman's trey stopped the Tulsa run and began a Green Wave stretch of 11 straight points to put the visitors back up by double digits at 49-35.

The Hurricane could get only as close as 8 points twice down the stretch.

Tulsa outscored Tulane in the paint 34-12 for the game, but the difference came down to the free throw line where Tulane made 14-of-17 freebies while Tulsa made it to the line only seven times and converted two.

"We're a team that's not confident right now. It's hard to win when you go to the line seven times and you only make two free throws and you're 4-of-21 from 3. I thought we had some good looks, but we're just not shooting well and we're just not confident. We missed some bunnies around the basket. We're all struggling right now and when you're struggling with your confidence you've got to have good leadership and you've got to fight a little bit harder," said Tulsa Head Coach Frank Haith.

The first half remained within four points until the Green Wave went on a 15-0 run for a 34-23 lead and closed out the half with a 38-25 halftime advantage.

Elijah Joiner's step-back jumper in the paint put the Hurricane ahead 23-19, and that's when the Green Wave took over in the first half. Tulane hit 7-of-7 from the field, including four from behind the arc, to close out the half with a 38-25 lead.

For the first 20 minutes, the Hurricane outscored the Green Wave 16-6 in the paint, but the visitors scored 18 first-half points on 3-pointers. Tulane made 6-of-11 treys and shot 52 percent from the field, while Tulsa connected on 40 percent of its field goals and 23 percent from behind the arc.

Tulsa will be back at the Reynolds Center next Tuesday, Feb. 16, against the Temple Owls with a game time of 6 p.m. The game will air on ESPNU.
