Tulsa Goes for Fourth Straight Win Over Wichita State

WICHITA, Kan. — Tulsa looks to start a new winning streak on Wednesday when they host UAB in the Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane goes for the season sweep of the Blazers and win back-to-back games in the series for the first time since 2009.

STORY LINES
Tulsa reached 20 wins this season in just 23 games, the third-fastest mark in program history. Only in 1999-00 (21) and 1983-83 (22) did the Golden Hurricane get to 20 wins in fewer games.
• The 2025-26 season is the 25th 20-win season in Tulsa history. The Golden Hurricane last won 20 games in 2019-20 when they went 21-10 and claimed a share of the American Conference regular season title.
• Tulsa's starting five of Barnstable, Behrend, Green, Popoola, and Riley leads the American Conference with a +/- of +132. That ranks them fourth in the country as a group per EvanMiya.com, trailing the starting units for Arizona, Houston, and Purdue. The next closest 5-man unit in the American Conference belongs to Wichita State's starting five at +77.
Tulsa's eight conference wins are its most since finishing the 2019-20 season with 13.
Tulsa's six road wins are the program's most since 2015-16 when they also won six. The team looks to win seven road games for the first time since 2014-15. The team leads the American Conference with 10 wins away from home, going 4-0 in neutral site contests.
• Tulsa is one of seven programs to use the same starting five all season along with; Arizona, Houston, Merrimack, Oklahoma, Seton Hall, and Stephen F. Austin.
• Tulsa is one of three teams in the country to not have a player with a double figure rebound game this season along with Temple and Davidson.
On Thursday, Miles Barnstable was named to the State Farm Dunk and Three-Point Championship Watch List. The 37th annual event is slated to take place April 3 in Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and broadcast nationally on April 5 on ESPN at 12:30 p.m. CT. Barnstable leads the American from three, shooting .420 percent.
 
SERIES HISTORY
• This is the 146th meeting in the series, the most of any opponent for the Golden Gurricane.
• Tulsa has won four of the last five but Wichita State leads the all-time series 78-67.
• Tulsa won its third in a row in the series earlier this season, 93-83. It was Tulsa's most points in the series since 1984. The Golden Hurricane have won three in a row against the Shockers since winning 13 straight from 1993-2002. Tulsa looks to win back-to-back games in Wichita since wins in 1996 and 2001.
Eric Konkol is 5-4 in his career against Wichita State.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
• The Shockers are 15-10 on the season and 7-5 in conference play, a game behind Tulsa.
• Wichita State has protected home court with an 11-3 record, only falling to DePaul, Rice, and South Florida on their home floor.
Kenyon Giles continues to pace Wichita State's offense, averaging 18.1 points per game.

• Head coach Eric Konkol reached 200 wins for his career in a 97-48 win over Rice.
• Tulsa won the Mayor's Cup despite Oral Roberts shooting .500 percent from the field and making 14 threes. Since the 2004-05 season per Stathead, it is Tulsa's first road win in which the opponent shot .500 percent or better from the field and made 10 or more threes. Last season, teams were 839-13 (.985) at home, shooting .500 percent or better from the field, and made more than 10 threes.
• The Golden Hurricane won their first in-season tournament, the Acrisure Holiday Invitational, since 2002 with a 63-60 victory over Northern Iowa.
• The Golden Hurricane have played three one-point games this season, with two in back-to-back games (Oral Roberts and Kansas State). It was the team's first back-to-back one-point finishes since 2011. The team is 2-1 in one-point games this season. It's the team's most one-point games since 2008-09.
• Tulsa's 117-point performance against UAPB set a new Reynolds Center facility record for points in a game. It was the ninth-most points in a game in school history and is the program's first game with 115-plus points since 2000.
• Tulsa received their highest ever NET ranking in the first batch of rankings, released on Dec. 1 at No. 27 in the country. The program's previous high was No. 52 back in 2020-21. Last season the Golden Hurricane finished ranked No. 271.
• Tulsa's 10-game winning streak was the program's longest since the 2014-15 season when they won 12 straight. It was the longest winning streak of head coach Eric Konkol's career.
• Tulsa went undefeated in the month of December. It was the team's first perfect month since January 2015 when the Golden Hurricane went 7-0 as part of that 12-game winning streak. The program last went undefeated in the month of December in 1983 when Nolan Richardson's squad went 7-0 before finishing the season 27-4.
• Tulsa's 97-48 win over Rice to open American Conference play was the team's largest ever margin of victory in an American Conference game and the second largest ever in a conference game in league history. Tulsa shot 13-of-19 (.684) from three-point range, the best mark in Reynolds Center history.
Ade Popoola had it going at South Florida, Popoola hit eight threes for the Golden Hurricane matching Corey Henderson Jr. (vs. UConn, Jan. 3, 2018) and Jason Parker (vs. Wichita State, Dec. 4, 2002) for the second most threes in a game in school history. Only James Woodard hit more in a game with 10 vs. SMU on Mar. 8, 2015.
• Tulsa is 5-1 in coaches challenges this season.

OVER 80
• Tulsa started the season with six straight games with 80-plus points
got off to a terrific start offensively, scoring 80+ points in each of the first six contests, they would also have a streak of seven straight games of over 80 points.
• It was the program's longest such streak(s) since the 2001-02 season, a streak of seven games. That team would score 80+ points 19 times.
• The program's single season record is 21 times, set back in 1983-84, under head coach Nolan Richardson. This season Tulsa has scored over 80 points 19 times.
• Tulsa has averaged 80 or more points in a season 14 times but not since 2001-02.
• Tulsa has three games scoring 100-plus points this season, their most 100-point performances in a year since 1995-96.

• Tulsa is 21st in the country in points per game (86.0), 26th in scoring margin (13.4), 14th in three-point percentage (.387), 10th in free throw percentage (.784), and 21st in free throws made (19.0).
Miles Barnstable is fourth in the country at the free throw line, 79-for-85 (.929). The senior is also shooting 66-for-157 (.420) to lead the conference and rank 31st in the nation in three-point shooting.
• Before this season the school record for free throw percentage is .753 (545-for-724) in 2001-02 by a team and .903 (121-for-134) by Rick Park in 1963-64. Those records are all in danger as the team is currently .784 (475-for-606) from the free throw line, while Miles Barnstable (.929), Myles Rigsby (.900), and Tylen Riley (.877) have a shot at the individual record.
• Tulsa leads the American Conference in point differential (14.0), field goal percentage (.489), three-point percentage (.392), and free throw percentage (.786).
• All 10 regulars in the Golden Hurricane rotation have had at least one game with 10 or more points.
• Tulsa is one of 13 programs with 19 games with 80-plus points, High Point leads the country with 22, while Murray State has 21.

Miles Barnstable is second in the nation with 23 games this season with two or more three-pointers. His 24 games in double figures has him tied for 8th in the country. David Green has scored in double figures 22 times, tied for 72nd.
• Six of Tulsa's eight American Conference victories have been by double digits. The Golden Hurricane have 13 wins by at least 10 points this season.
• Tulsa has shot .500 or better from the field 10 times this season, one away from the program record of 11 set in 2009-10.
• Tulsa is tied for 18th in the nation in Kill Shots per EvanMiya.com, which indicates a 10-0 run. Tulsa's 22 leads the American Conference and have only allowed five all season, the fewest in the American.

LAST TIME OUT
Tulsa fell for just the second time this season at home, 68-63, to UAB on Wednesday.
The Tulsa offense was kept in check, going just 7-for-26 from three and held to a season low nine free throw attempts.
Tyler Behrend and Tylen Riley each were a rebound shy of a double-double with both setting career highs in that category.
