Hurricane Softball Scores 6 but Falls to Aggies 9-6

2/27/2021 3:57:00 PM | Softball

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Golden Hurricane scores 6 runs on 10 hits; however, it is not enough as it drops one to Texas A&M, 9-6 at Davis Diamond Saturday afternoon.

Senior Alexis Perry led the Hurricane offensively, going 2-3 from the plate with three runs batted in. In her first start as a Hurricane, Imani Edwards went 3-4 with a triple and a run.

Tulsa put a runner on base in the first inning with an Edwards single, but a fielder's choice and strike out ended the inning. The Aggies came out swinging scoring 3 runs on 4 hits in the bottom half of the first.

TU fought back, as Haley Morgan started the 2nd inning off with a double to left field, which was followed by a single from senior Sarah Briers. Rylee Keith, who drew her first career start, drove in the first run of the day on a sacrifice fly to right field.

After Samantha Pochop kept the Aggies scoreless in the bottom of the second, Kylie Norwood continued her hot weekend from the plate doubling to left center. Edwards reached first on an error by the first baseman, then stole second during the next at bat. Perry drew a walk to load the bases with no outs for TU.

The Hurricane scored on a fielder's choice to trim the TAMU lead to 3-2. However, in the bottom of the frame, the Aggies tacked on 5 runs on 3 hits to extend their advantage to 8-2.

TU did not quit, mounting a comeback during the 5th and 6th innings. With an out in the fifth Edwards tripled to right center, before Perry singled scoring the first run of the inning. Kennedy Cramer pinch ran for the Hurricane, stealing a base in her first action for TU. The freshman two batters later scored on a Sarah Briers single; however, the inning ended as Morgan was thrown out at third.

Tulsa used a two-out rally in the 6th to load the bases on singles by Norwood and Edwards and an Aggies error. Perry singled down the left field line scoring two, but Edwards was called out at home.

After Texas A&M homered in the bottom of the 6th, the Hurricane put a runner on first after Morgan was hit by a pitch. However, she was stranded, and the Aggies took the 9-6 victory.

Samantha Pochop (0-1) drew the start for TU, going 2.1 innings allowing 7 hits and 8 runs. Sara Llamas-Howell in relief went 3.2 innings, giving up just 4 hits and a run while striking out 2.

The Hurricane and Aggies wrap up the three-game series on Sunday, playing at 11:00 a.m. at the Davis Diamond on SEC Network+.
