COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Tulsa puts runners in scoring position in 6-of-7 innings but cannot bring a runner home, falling to Texas A&M in the series finale 3-0 at Davis Diamond Sunday morning.
Imani Edwards ended her weekend strong, going 1-2 from the plate and drawing two walks. She used her speed to her advantage recording her second steal of the season, as well as advancing to second on a wild pitch.
Seniors Sarah Briers and Kyndal Pirtle gave TU production from the 6th and 7th holes. Briers was 1-4 on the day and stole her first base of the season. Pirtle went 1-1 in the game, also drawing two walks.
Tulsa moves to 0-3 on the season, while Texas A&M moves to 6-2, sweeping the series against the Hurricane.
Sara Llamas-Howell (0-1) drew her first start of the season and dominated the Aggies for five innings; however, she gave up the game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the 6th. She finished the day going 5.1 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 runs and striking out 4.
Kylee Nash pitched 0.2 innings in relief of Llamas-Howell, facing two batters striking out the last Aggies batter for her second strikeout of the season.
The Hurricane, for the third straight game, started strong as Kylie Norwood walked and advanced to second on Edwards' bunt single. However, the Aggies found a way out of the jam as TU fouled out, flied out and struck out to end the inning. In the bottom half of the inning TAMU put runners on second and third, but Llamas-Howell struck out the final batter to retire the side.
Briers started the second inning with a single to center field, before stealing second base. Like the previous inning, the Hurricane's next three batters went down in consecutive order. In the third an Edwards walk and Chenise Delce fielder's choice put runners on the corners with one out. Kennedy Cramer pinch-ran for Delce, picking up her second steal of the season; however, two pop-ups ended the inning.
The Hurricane put runners on the corners in the 6th inning after a Pirtle walk and Aubree Seaney reached first on a fielder's choice. A strikeout and pop-up ended the Hurricane hopes of taking the lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Aggies put runners on first and second after walks before Haley Lee hit a home run to right field.
Tulsa made it interesting in the top of the 7th as Delce singled to left with two outs, and Rylee Keith's walk put runners on first and second. A pop-up to the short stop ended the game, as the Hurricane fell to the Aggies 3-0.
TU is back in action, hosting the OSU/TU Tournament, next weekend. Tula will open the tournament playing New Mexico on Friday, March 5 at 1:00 p.m.
