Isaac Akers Records Tulsa’s Third-Best Time in 5,000m Run at Joe Walker Invitational

The Tulsa runners competed in the women's 1,500m run and men's and women's steeplechase on Friday night at the Joe Walker Invitational in Oxford, Miss., before severe weather halted the event. The Golden Hurricane runners returned on Saturday night and raced in the women's 800m run, men's 1,500m run, and men's and women's 5,000m run.
MEN
Isaac Akers recorded a time of 13:48.61 in the 5,000m run, the third-best in school history, to finish third. Chris McLeod (14 – 14:23.21), Jerik Embleton (23 – 14:34.43), Malte Propp (26 – 14:35.34), Ryan Shumaker (28 – 14:38.52) and Christian Baker (34 – 14:51.65) round out the TU runners in the event.
In the steeplechase event, Pete Johnson turned in a time of 9:11.89 for seventh place, while Reed Sahadevan finished 13th with a time of 9:27.07.
Cameron Field recorded a time of 3:47.99 in the 1,500m run to finished 38th.
WOMEN
Ashley Barnes captured a sixth-place finish with her time of 10:25.71 in the steeplechase, while Katharina Pesendorfer was seventh (10:35.77) and Layla Roebke was ninth (10:46.69).
In the 5,000m run, Alice Newcombe posted a time of 16:46.64 for eighth place and Chloe Hershenow finished 22nd with a time of 17:39.58.
Jaidah McCallon posted a time of 2:09.67 for 20th place in the 800m run, while Keely Jones was 30th in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:33.73.
