TULSA, Okla. – The Oviedo, Fla. native, Aubree Seaney steals the show, walking off her hometown team with a two-run home run in the bottom of the 7th. The blast gave Tulsa a 5-4 win in the first game of the double header against UCF in the Collins Family Softball Complex Saturday.
"Aubree is someone I always feel will go in there and give us a quality at bat. I saw her taking some marginal pitches, to get her in the great count," said head coach Crissy Strimple, "Everyone, including myself, had a gut feeling that she was going to barrel one up."
Kylie Norwood started the 7th off for Tulsa with a solo blast of her own, cutting the Knights lead to 4-3. After an Alexis Perry walked, the Seaney stepped into the box. On a 3-2 count the first baseman sent her third career homer over the center field fence.
The Hurricane entered the inning down 4-2 after UCF sent a three-run home run over the center field fence in the top of the 6th inning.
Tulsa and UCF started the scoring in the second inning, as the Knights used a RBI double to get the first run on the board. The Hurricane responded with a Kyndal Pirtle RBI single down the left field line.
Perry went 2-3 on the day, including an RBI single in the 5th inning giving the Hurricane a 2-1 lead.
Senior Kassidy Scott picked up her 2nd win of the season in relief going two scoreless innings, striking out a Knight batter. Samantha Pochop drew the start for TU, going 5.0 innings allowing 8 hits, 4 runs while striking out 5.
The Knights started the second game off strong, scoring 4 runs in the first inning. UCF used a three-run home run by Juliana Wilson to build their lead.
Tajiah Ellison's RBI fielder's choice in the fourth inning is all the scoring that Tulsa could muster, leaving 10 runners on base throughout the contest.
Sara Llamas-Howell started for Tulsa, throwing 4.0 innings giving up 5 runs, 4 earned, in the game. Freshman Kylee Nash threw three innings in relief, allowing only two hits and a run while striking out 2.
The Hurricane and Knights close out the series on Saturday, April 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Collins Family Softball Complex. The game will be aired on ESPN+.
