TULSA, Okla. –– Tulsa's season came to an end Friday night in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship when the No. 1 seed Wichita State Shockers captured a 9-4 victory at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

Wichita State advances to Saturday's championship game against No. 3 seed UCF. The Knights claimed a 3-2 win over No. 2 Seed USF in Friday's first semifinal game. Game time is 1 p.m.

The Shockers did its damage in the first four innings, scoring three runs in the third inning for a 4-1 lead and took a seven-run cushion an inning later with five runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 9-2 lead.

Tulsa, the No. 4 seed, opened the scoring in the top half of the first inning with one run when Alexis Perry singled home Haley Morgan from second base. The Shockers loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning, but the Hurricane turned a double play, getting the lead runner out at the plate and the batter at first.

WSU tied the score with a run in the second inning and had a big third with three runs on four hits for its 4-1 lead. The Shockers put its first two runners on base and scored on two singles and a double before Chenise Delce spelled starter Kassidy Scott on the mound to get the final out.

Delce helped the cause from the plate when she put the first pitch of the fourth inning over the left field fence making the score 4-2.

The Shockers took a 9-2 lead after four innings when Lauren Mills blasted a two-out grand slam over the left field fence. WSU threatened again in the fifth but Kyndal Pirtle's diving grab after a long run prevented a bases-clearing hit to deep left field.

In the sixth, the Hurricane added two runs after putting its first three runners on base to cut its deficit to five at 9-4. Pirtle's sacrifice fly scored Kennedy Cramer and Rylie Keith's ground out pushed Aubrey Seaney across the plate

Tulsa entered the top of the seventh needing five runs to tie the score. The Hurricane put the first two batters on base with walks but couldn't get a run across the plate.
