Tulsa Women’s Soccer Takes on Pittsburgh and UTSA at BancFirst Cowgirl Soccer Invitational

The Tulsa women's soccer team will begin the 2021 campaign against Pittsburgh and UTSA in the BancFirst Cowgirl Soccer Invitational on Thursday, August 19 and Sunday, August 22, respectively, in Stillwater, Okla.
 
Tulsa returns 17 letterwinners, including eight starters from last season, as well as six returning squad members.  The Golden Hurricane also welcomed 15 newcomers to the roster. 
 
Returning starter and defender, Madison Tokarchik was named to the American Athletic Conference all-Rookie team.  She scored the game-winning goal against Arkansas Pine Bluff, and added an assist against the Golden Lions and UCF.  Tokarchik also helped record a shutout over UAPB, while attempting six shots on the season, five of which were on goal.
 
Emma Malsy logged 552:54 between the posts, picked up 33 saves for a 0.673 saves percentage and allowed 16 goals for a 2.60 goals-against average, while Raegan Beeding played 167:06 in goal for 11 saves, a 0.733 saves percentage, four goals allowed and a 2.15 GAA last season.
 
The Pittsburgh Panthers posted an 11-5 overall record, including a 3-5 mark in the ACC, last season.  Pitt is led by Randy Waldrum, who served as Tulsa's head coach from 1989-94.  Waldrum owned a 61-36-9 mark in six seasons at TU, has a 24-27-4 mark in three seasons at Pitt, and a career mark of 423-135-33 in 26 seasons.
 
Amanda West scored team-bests of 13 goals and seven assists for 33 points a year ago, while Caitlyn Lazzarini logged nearly 700 minutes in goal, picked up 31 saves for a 0.756 saves percentage, and allowed 10 goals for a 1.30 goals-against average.
 
This will be the first meeting between Tulsa and Pitt.
 
UTSA posted a 3-7-1 overall mark, including a 1-5 record in C-USA last season.  Abby Kassal had a team-best four goals and nine points on the year, while Deja Sandoval added two scores.  Jil Schneider logged 859 minutes in goal, picked up 27 saves for a 0.692 saves percentage, and allowed 12 goals for a 1.26 GAA.
 
This will be the second meeting between Tulsa and UTSA, as the Golden Hurricane recorded a 1-0 win over the Roadrunners in 2013 when both teams were members of Conference USA.
