TULSA, Okla. –– After taking Saturday off from the practice field, the Tulsa football team returned to the grass of Harwell Field Sunday morning to unexpected but pleasant temperatures.  The Hurricane practiced for two hours this morning in helmets and shoulder pads for the first time in the preseason.

"We were blessed with a really nice cool day for the first day of pads," said Head Coach Philip Montgomery. "I thought we did a really good job of coming out and executing on both sides of the football. We saw good plays on both sides. We installed a few more things today. I thought we took care of each other but was able to get really good technical work in."

The first day of pads saw the intensity level pick up for the Hurricane.

"Everything picks up when you put pads on. Intensity level picks up, guys are flying around. You know contact is coming," added Montgomery. "It was nice for our big guys to come off the football on both sides and work against each other. I thought the d-line really did a nice job. It was a good competitive back and forth. We've got some really good experience upfront on both sides and we're going to lean on those guys. It was a good competitive day for them."

Tulsa will be back on the practice field Monday morning before meeting the media for the Annual Football Media Day in the afternoon.
