Ben Barkley, Luke Jeffus and Malik Henry-Scott each recorded a goal for Tulsa in a dominating 3-0 win over #8 Missouri State on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane moved to 3-0 on the season, while the Bears fell to 2-1 overall.
"It is good to come home," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "I thought we came out a little slow and they put us under pressure in the first 10 minutes, but then I think our pressure started to affect them in their possession. Attacking wise we were really good tonight and we scored three really nice goals. We've been working on ways to create chances in other areas of the field. It was a really good run by both Ben and Luke, and then for Malik a really good individual goal."
Ben Barkley put the Golden Hurricane on the board at the 19:57 mark as he drilled in a score from 18 yards out off a forward pass from Malik Henry-Scott. This was Barkley's first goal of the season and third of his career.
Luke Jeffus gave TU a two-goal cushion heading into the break as he picked up a pass from Chase Bromstedt at the penalty kick mark. Jeffus placed it in the upper third in the center of the net out of the goalkeeper's reach with 43:35 on the clock. This was Jeffus' second career goal but first on the season.
With just under nine minutes to play in the contest, Henry-Scott earned his first collegiate goal as he battled in the box for a clear shot, and then drilled the ball into the back of the net from five yards out from right to left.
Tulsa had a 19-10 lead in shots, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal, while Missouri State had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Alex Meinhard had a team-best four shots, while Jeffus, Henry-Scott and Tom Protzek each had three attempts, and five others had at least one shot. Alex Lopez logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up four saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Monday, September 6 against #10 Marquette beginning at 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
