TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa softball team's 2022 schedule consists of 11 NCAA Tournament participants, including two who advanced to the Women's College World Series, and the 2021 National Champions, head coach Crissy Strimple announced on Monday afternoon.

The nonconference slate features eight teams who made last season's NCAA Tournament. The Golden Hurricane's schedule includes games against teams from the Big 12, Big Ten and Pac 12 conferences, among others.

"Each year we want to challenge our team with great competition before starting conference play," Strimple said. "Right from the jump we are going to see teams who made the NCAA Tournament this past season. We have great leadership returning in our seniors, Sam (Pochop) and Kylie (Norwood), with an exciting young, talented group. Playing a tough nonconference schedule should prepare us for the competitiveness of The American Athletic Conference while giving us other avenues to the postseason."

The Hurricane starts its season in Lake Charles, La. for the Louisiana Classics as Tulsa takes on North Texas, UAB, McNeese State and Louisiana over Feb. 11-13. McNeese State won the Southland Conference tournament last season and was a regional participant.

In the final two games of the tournament, Tulsa will face UAB and Louisiana in Lafayette, La. The Ragin' Cajuns are two-time defending Sun Belt champions and have finished ranked in each of the past 14 seasons, making an NCAA Tournament appearance every year since 1999.

Next, Tulsa will head to Ruston, La. for the La Tech Invitational (Feb. 19-20), playing Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston twice each.

Five days later, the Hurricane makes its first appearance in the Lone Star State for the Texas Classic, Feb. 25-27, where Tulsa will play UTSA and three teams with NCAA Tournament appearances this past season. TU will play Texas State twice, as well as Arizona State. The Hurricane will also face the Texas Longhorns, whose 2021 season ended in the Super Regionals, one game from the Women's College World Series.

The Hurricane opens March with its first home games of the season when Tulsa welcomes DePaul, Minnesota and Stanford for the TU/OSU Invitational (Mar. 4-5) at the Collins Family Softball Complex

Following a midweek home game against Central Arkansas (Mar. 8), the Golden Hurricane hits road to play in the Texas Tech Invitational (Mar. 12-13). Tulsa will play two games against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and Texas Tech over the weekend.

The Hurricane hosts Abilene Christian in a midweek doubleheader on Mar. 16. Then, a trip to Lawrence, Kan. awaits. Tulsa will face the Jayhawks, Nebraska and South Dakota in the Rock Chalk Challenge (Mar. 18-20), closing out the nonconference tournament slate.

Tulsa welcomes Houston for a weekend series starting Mar. 27 to open conference play. In addition to the Cougars, the Hurricane will host South Florida (April 22-24) and ECU (May 6-8) at the Collins Family Softball Complex as part of its home conference schedule.

The American season includes trips to Wichita, Kan. to play Wichita State (April 1-3), Memphis, Tenn. to face the Memphis Tigers (April 14-16) and Orlando, Fla. to take on UCF (April 29 – May 1).

Tulsa also has three games against in-state schools. The Hurricane ends March with a short road trip to Stillwater to take on 2021 Women's College World Series participant Oklahoma State on the 30th. TU hosts the Cowgirls in a return game on April 20.

On April 6, the Golden Hurricane travel to Norman to battle the defending 2021 National Champion Oklahoma Sooners.

Postseason play gets underway at The American Athletic Conference Championships May 12-14 in Greenville, N.C.
