CINCINNATI, OHIO. ––
The Cincinnati Bearcats hit 16 threes en route to a 90-69 win against the University of Tulsa at Fifth Third Arena on Thursday night.
 
Darien Jackson set a career high with 21 points on 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) to pace the Hurricane. He also had five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in 35 minutes of action. Jeriah Horne Scored 19 and pulled down seven rebounds, and Sam Griffin rounded out double-figure scoring with 13 points.
 
Jeremiah Davenport led all scorers with 24 and was 7-of-9 from deep (77.8 percent) for the Bearcats. He was joined by David DeJulius, who scored 20 points. Mika Adams-Woods and Mason Madsen each scored 14 points, and Mike Saunders Jr. finished with 11.
 
The Hurricane shot 38 percent for the evening and hit only 56 percent of its shots from the free throw line (9-16). Cincinnati hit 47 percent of its shots and 55 percent from deep. Tulsa's defense created 19 Cincinnati turnovers and stole the ball 12 times, while Tulsa turned it over three times. The two teams were even with 41 rebounds apiece.
 
Tulsa dropped to 6-10 on the season and 0-5 in American Athletic Conference play. Cincinnati improved to 14-5 and 4-2 in The American.
 
The Hurricane was outscored 49-35 in the second half after trailing by seven at the break. The Bearcats shot 53 percent from the field in the second 20 minutes, and 50 percent from deep, while the Hurricane was held to 34 percent shooting and were unable to convert on any of its six attempts from three.
 
After Horne opened the scoring in the second half with a layup, the Bearcats went on a 13-3 run, ending with a 3-pointer at the 15-minute mark to extend its lead to 17, 56-39. Tulsa had found itself down double-digits in each of the previous four conference games and battled back late but were unable to do so this time.
 
Jackson cut the lead to 13, 56-43, with an and-one and then split a pair of free throws the next possession. However, Tulsa was unable to cut into the lead any further. Cincinnati outscored TU 11-2 over the next three minutes, taking a 67-45 lead with 10:40 remaining. After a jumper from LaDavius Draine, the Bearcats took a 70-47 lead on a 3-pointer at the 10:12 mark. The largest lead was 24, 88-64, after Cincinnati's 16th and final 3-pointer with a little more than two minutes to play.
 
Cincinnati took an early 2-0 lead on a pair of free throws in the first minute of the game. A pullup jumper from Jackson put Tulsa on the board, 5-2, at the 17:20 mark. Horne and Jackson combined for Tulsa's first 12 points, resulting in Tulsa taking a brief 12-11 lead with 13:44 to play in the first half off a Horne 3-pointer.
 
The Bearcats retook the lead on the ensuing possession and went on a 14-2 run over the next 4:10 before Jackon's layup ended the streak and made the score 25-16. Jumpers from Anthony Pritchard and Horne brought Tulsa within five, 25-20, before Cincinnati extend its lead back to 10, 30-20 with 4:34 remaining.
 
The Bearcats took its largest lead of the half after a 3-pointer with 2:34 to play in the opening 20 minutes, giving them a 39-27 lead. A three from Horne and fastbreak layup from Jackson got Tulsa within seven. After a Cincinnati bucket, Griffin ended the half with a driving layup as the Bearcats took a 41-34 lead into the locker rooms.
 
Tulsa shot just 43-percent from the field in the opening half, and 38 percent from three. However, while Cincinnati only hit 41-percent of its shot from the field, the Bearcats were 60 percent from three, hitting on 9 of its 15 attempts.
 
Horne paced the Hurricane in the opening 20 minutes with 13 points and Jackson had eight.
 
Tulsa returns to the Reynolds Center on Sunday for a rematch with the Memphis Tigers in a 2 p.m. (CT) game on ESPN. The Hurricane then go back on the road for the season's only game against Tulane on Wednesday, Jan. 26. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. on ESPNU.
