THE STORYLINES . . .
• Tulsa is in its 126th season of football in 2022.
• Tulsa has the smallest FBS enrollment with a total enrollment of 3,705 students … South Florida's enrollment is 50,577 students.
• Both teams are looking to snap losing streaks … Tulsa has lost three straight games, while South Florida has dropped its last eight games.
• It's the final home game for 23 seniors participating in Senior Day activities … that includes 12 who have exhausted their eligibility and another 11 who have eligibility remaining, including four walk-ons.
THE SERIES . . .
• This is the sixth meeting between Tulsa and South Florida.
• USF holds a 3-2 series advantage, having won the first three games … Tulsa has won the last two games in the series.
• Tulsa won last year's game, 32-31, after never leading until the final 0:47 of the game.
• USF is 2-0 in games at Tulsa, while Tulsa is 2-1 in South Florida.
• In Tulsa, USF won the first game of the series in 2014 (38-30) and as the No. 23-ranked team in 2018 pulled out a 25-24 win.
• Tulsa has a 15.0-win margin in its two victories, while the win margin for USF is just 5.3 points.
QUICK HITS . . .
• CB Tyon Davis tied his career-high with three pass breakups and had a career-best two fumble recoveries at Memphis.
• Davis' two fumble recoveries was the most for a Tulsa player since Shawn Jackson had two against Marshall on Nov. 14, 2013.
• LB Jon-Michael Terry had a career-high 18 tackles against Tulane, the most for any Tulsa player this season.
• After starting the season with just one offensive lineman with a previous start, Tulsa has started the same offensive line for five straight games.
• WR JC Santana became the second career 2,000-yard receiver on the Tulsa roster this season when he surpassed that mark against SMU … he now has 2,128 yards.
• With 13 tackles against Tulane, SAF Kendarin Ray became the third player this season to reach the 200-tackle plateau in their careers … he needed nine to hit 200 … he now has 209 career stops … LB Justin Wright has 236 and NKL Bryson Powers has 229.
• Freshman-RS QB Braylon Braxton made his first career start against the league's top defensive unit, Tulane … he threw for 146 yards and one TD and rushed for another 32 yards in that game.
STOKES NO. 1 ON TULSA'S ALL-TIME RECEIVING CHART . . .
• WR Keylon Stokes entered the season ranked ninth on the school's all-time receiving chart with 2,550 career yards.
• Stokes is now Tulsa's all-time leading receiver with 3,582, sub-planting a record that stood for 57 years … he entered the Temple game needing 28 yards to tie Twilley and ended the game with 37 yards on four receptions for 3,352 yards.
• In 10 games, Stokes has accumulated 1,032 yards, six TDs, a 103.2 average per game on 63 receptions this year … he has totaled six 100+ receiving games this season.
STOKES APPROACHING AAC RECORD . . .
• Tulsa's Keylon Stokes has amassed 5,270 career all-purpose yards in 56 career games for a 94.1 average per game.
• He is third on the school's all-time list trailing second place by 607 yards.
• However, Stokes is second on the American Athletic Conference all-purpose yards list, trailing Navy's Malcolm Perry's (2016-19) total of 5,320 yards by 50 yards.
LAST YEAR TULSA-USF REVISITED . . .
• A year ago, Tulsa overcame three turnovers, including an interception return for a TD, a special team's touchdown and a double-digit deficit for a 32-31 victory.
• South Florida jumped out to a 24-10 lead with 5:24 remaining in the first half, following a 100-yard kickoff return and a 69-yard interception.
• Tulsa scored 10 points in the final 1:10 of the half to cut its deficit to 24-20.
• Heading into the 4th quarter USF led 31-20, but Tulsa cut the Bulls lead to five points, 31-26, on a 13-yard Davis Brin to Josh Johnson pass … the 2-point run failed.
• Tulsa took possession again with 4:20 remaining after the defense held USF on 4th-and-1.
• From the USF 42-yard line, Tulsa marched to the 20-yard line and faced their own 4th down, but Brin hit Johnson for a 6-yard gain and the first down.
• Shamari Brooks had runs of 4, 6 and 3 for the TD with 0:47 left on the clock.
• Missing 3 defensive starters, the Tulsa defense held USF to 113 rushing and 155 passing yards, as well as just 17 offensive points.
THE 1,000 CLUB . . .
• WR Keylon Stokes also went over 1,000 yards receiving for the season in the Memphis game, now giving him 1,032 yards.
• It is the second season that Stokes has surpassed 1,000 yards in a single season … his previous 1,000-yard season came in 2019 with 1,040 yards.
• It marks the 23rd time in school history that Tulsa has had a 1,000-yard receiver.
• Stokes becomes just the sixth Tulsa player to accomplish the feat in two separate seasons … the others are: Howard Twilley (1964, '65), Dan Bitson (1988, '89), Brennan Marion (2007, '08), Josh Atkinson (2015, '16) and Stokes' older brother Keevan Lucas (2014, '16).
TULSA DEFENDERS LEAD AAC . . .
• CB Tyon Davis has totaled 12 passes defended with 11 breakups and one interception to lead the American Athletic Conference with a 1.20 average per game.
• SAF Kendarin Ray's three forced fumbles ties for the AAC lead with an 0.30 average per game.
• In addition, Davis is joined by LB Jon-Michael Terry and LB Justin Wright to ranked third in the AAC for fumbles recovered with two,
• NKL Bryson Powers and Wright rank 4-6 for tackles in the AAC.
STOKES AMONG NATION'S TOP RECEIVERS . . .
• Keylon Stokes ranks fourth in the nation for receiving yards at 1,032 yards behind SMU's Rashee Rice (1,068) and Tennessee's Jalin Hyatt (970)
• His 103.2-yard average per game ranks sixth in the FB … he also ranks 19th for receptions per game (6.3) and 41st for all-purpose yards (111.4).
• Stokes was added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List on Oct. 5.
IN AAC RECEIVING HISTORY . . .
• In American Athletic Conference history, Keylon Stokes is the just the fifth player to reach 3,000 career receiving yards
• Stokes currently ranks fourth overall in AAC history with his current total of 3,582 yards.
• He needs eight yards to tie Memphis' Anthony Miller's (2105-17) total of 3,590 yards for third place.
• Stokes is 93 yards shy of second-place as ECU's Zay Jones (2014-16) has 3,675 yards … the AAC career record is held by SMU's James Proche (2016-19) with 3,949 yards.
200 TACKLES . . .
• Three Tulsa defenders entered the season within reach of the 200+ career tackle mark –– LB Justin Wright, NKL Bryson Powers and SAF Kendarin Ray.
• Wright entered the season with 152 career tackles, Powers with 144 and Ray with 136.
• Against Navy, Wright's 13 tackles put him over the 200-tackle plateau with 203 stops and now has 236 tackles in 46 career games.
• Powers had nine stops at Temple to give him 204 tackles … he now has 229 stops in 56 career games.
• Ray compiled 13 tackles against #19 Tulane to go over 200, and now has 209 tackles in 37 career games.
