Tulsa Falls to No. 19 Tulane 27-13

TULSA, Okla. –– Tulsa's valiant effort fell short against the 19th-ranked Tulane Green Wave 27-13 on Saturday afternoon at H.A. Chapman Stadium.
Tulane improved to 8-1 and went to 5-0 in the American Athletic Conference, while Tulsa fell to 3-6 and 1-4 in league play. The Green Wave amassed 482 total yards, while Tulsa compiled 257 yards of total offense.
The Green Wave rushed for 357 yards with Tyjae Spears leading the way with 157 yards.
Braylon Braxton handled the quarterbacking duties for Tulsa for an injured Davis Brin, and ended with 32 rushing yards and 146 passing yards and one TD on 13 completions. Defensively, Jon Michael Terry had a career-best 18 tackles, followed by Kendarin Ray with 13 stops and his first career interception that set up Tulsa's second-quarter touchdown.
After holding Tulsa on the first second-half possession, Tulane marched 87 yards in nine plays to take a 24-10 lead at the 9:09 mark of the third quarter. Michael Pratt hit Shae Wyatt in the end zone with a 20-yard strike for the score.
The Hurricane responded on the subsequent possession but had to settle for Zack Long 40-yard field goal to make the score 24-13 with 4:35 remaining in the third period.
The Green Wave sealed the victory with a final 54-yard scoring drive that took 5:27 of the clock and resulted in a 33-yard field goal.
Tulane took the game's opening drive 78 yads in seven plays as Pratt hit Tyrick James on a 10-yar touchdown. With Braxton at quarterback, Tulsa responded with three points on a 46-yard Zack Long field goal, capping a 47-yard, 9-play drive.
The Green Wave went on a 70-play drive but was held to a field goal by the Tulsa defense for a 10-3 lead.
Tulane added to the score with 6:10 remaining on a Tyjae Spears 34-yard run to culminate an 88-yard, nine-play drive.
A Kendarin Ray interception with 1:10 left on the first-half clock put the Tulsa offense at the Tulane 29-yard line. On the second play, Braxton hit JuanCarlos Santana in the end zone for a 28-yard scoring pass.
At the intermission, Tulane had a 265 to 159-yard edge in total offense with 214 of those coming on the ground. Tulsa passed for 90 yards and rushed for another 69 yards.
Tulsa goes on the road for a Thursday night game against the Memphis Tigers. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.
