TAMPA, Fla. –– After a matchup against UCF in Orlando earlier in the week, Tulsa is back in the Sunshine State for an early Saturday morning game with South Florida.
Saturday's game will tip-off at 11 a.m. (CT) on ESPN+ from South Florida's Yuengling Center.
Tulsa enters with an overall 8-16 record, 2-11 in the American Athletic Conference. The Hurricane dropped its last game 76-67 to the Knights on Monday. The Bulls (7-18, 2-11 AAC) come in having played only two nights earlier, when East Carolina visited and beat South Florida 65-57.
This is the 12th meeting in the series and the Hurricane will look to keep its undefeated record alive on Saturday and move to 7-0 in games played in Tampa. Tulsa won the earlier matchup in the season, beating the Bulls 76-45 on Jan. 29. The 31-point win was the largest of the season for Tulsa, and the lowest offensive output from South Florida. Jeriah Horne and Sam Griffin combined to score 44 points in the win.
On Monday, Horne recorded 18 points and eight rebounds to pace the Hurricane, and Darien Jackson added 16 points, but it wasn't enough to stop UCF. Tulsa shot just 33 percent in the opening half, while UCF knocked down 57 percent of its shots, putting TU in a hole that was difficult to climb out of. The Hurricane only turned it over three more times than its opponents, but the Knights outscored Tulsa 26-13 in points off turnovers.
On the season, Horne leads Tulsa with a 16.2 scoring average and 7.0 rebounds, while sophomore guard Griffin is next in scoring with a 15.1 average. Jackson scores at a 9.3 clip and grabs 3.1 rebounds per game. Freshman Anthony Pritchard dishes out a team-high 3.2 assists per game and has contributed more than 25 percent of the team's total assists on the season.
The Bulls are led by three players who average close to the same amount. Only Caleb Murphey averages double figures, putting up 11.5 a night. Javon Greene and Jamir Chaplin score 9.4 and 9.1 respectively. Greene is one of the craftier defenders in the conference, averaging an AAC-high 2.0 steals per night and has 47 total steals.
The game will broadcast on ESPN+ and Bruce Howard and J.R. Rollo will be on the radio call, airing on Big Country 99.5 FM.
