Tulsa Softball Headed to Kansas for Rock Chalk Challenge

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After splitting a home midweek doubleheader with Abilene Christian, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane is back on the road for the Rock Chalk Challenge in Lawrence, Kan. this weekend.
Due to weather, the schedule for the Rock Chalk Challenge was changed. Instead of starting on Friday, the tournament will run on Saturday and Sunday, with Tulsa facing Nebraska and the hosts, Kansas, twice.
Tulsa will start play against Nebraska on at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a break until a 5:30 p.m. first pitch against Kansas Saturday evening. Sunday will see Tulsa face the Cornhuskers first again, this time at 12:30 p.m. before wrapping the weekend against the Jayhawks at 5:30.
The Hurricane sits at 9-15 on the season. Tulsa won its first game of the week 4-1 against the Wildcats, before falling 8-2 in the nightcap. Haley Morgan has a team-leading .365 batting average this season after finishing the second game 3-for-3. Morgan six doubles and two home runs in 2022. Freshman Celeste Wood has sits at a .315 batting average with a team-high 10 doubles, three triples and 25 RBIs. Junior catcher Rylee Keith leads the team with three home runs.
In the circle, senior Samantha Pochop leads a group of four hurlers with a 2.90 ERA and 81 strikeouts. She's tossed six complete games in 12 starts and has five wins.
Nebraska brings a 15-9 record into the Rock Chalk Challenge. The Cornhuskers are coming off a 4-3 trip to California that started a weekend ago. Nebraska competed in the Cal State Fullerton/Long Beach State Tournament and finished 4-1, and then dropped a Tuesday doubleheader at San Diego on Tuesday.
The Jayhawks hold an 8-13 record heading into their tournament this weekend. Kansas hosted the Jayhawk Invitational on Sunday and Monday, starting 0-2 before finishing with a 1-0 win against SEMO.
