ORLANDO, Fla. –– For the second consecutive game, one inning disrupted a solid defensive performance as Tulsa dropped a close 2-1 game to UCF on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Hurricane falls to 15-28-1, 4-8-1 in The American, while UCF improves to 41-11, 13-1 in the American Athletic Conference. Tulsa was outhit 6-4 and UCF had the lone error of the game.
The Knights scored twice in the second inning with a pair of singles with runners on second and third. On the second single, a runner attempted to score from second, but Celeste Wood fired home to Rylee Keith to nab the runner before she crossed home plate.
Tulsa took the lead in the top of the second after a fielder's choice brought Abby Jones home. A leadoff walk from Jones and single from Wood had gotten Tulsa in position to score.
The Hurricane had one last opportunity in the seventh inning. Claira Skaggs singled with one away and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from MaKayla Jackson. However, a lineout to third ended the game.
Kylee Nash (2-5) started in the circle and threw 4.2 innings allowing two runs on five hits. The sophomore walked four and struck out two. Makenzie Brown pitched the final 1.1 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one.
Tulsa will attempt to take one game of the series with the finale on Sunday. First pitch for game three is set for 11 a.m. and will air on ESPN+.
