Golden Hurricane to Face Top-Ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Tulsa softball team is set for a midweek matchup with the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday at Marita Hynes Field.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will air on Bally Sports Extra. This is the only game of Tulsa's week as the Golden Hurricane has the week off from conference play.
The Hurricane brings a 12-22-1 record into matchup after going 0-4 last week with a game against Oklahoma State and series with conference foe Wichita State.
Abby Jones is now leading the team in batting average. The junior second baseman is batting .343 with five doubles, a triple, a home run has scored 20 runs. She's been named to The American's conference honor roll in consecutive weeks for her performances.
In six games of conference play, Jones is hitting .579 with four doubles, a home run, a slugging percentage of .947 and on-base percentage of .600, all of which are team-highs. Kylie Norwood has also been coming on strong in conference, batting .444 with a pair of doubles and five walks.
Tulsa struggled with the long ball last week as TU gave up 13 home runs in the four games, including four in each of the games against Wichita State. In all, 22 of the 38 runs the Shockers scored were attributed to home runs.
It doesn't get any easier against the best team in the nation, who brings a 32-0 record into Wednesday's game. OU leads the nation in home runs per game, averaging 2.59 a night, which has contributed to 26 mercy-rule victories this season. In addition, Oklahoma leads the nation in batting average (.383), as well as on-base percentage (.499)
Newly crowned home run queen Jocelyn Alo leads the Sooners with a .513 batting average, which is third best in the nation. She also has 16 home runs, which puts her fourth in the country. She leads the rest of the field in on-base percentage (.681) and her astounding 1.276 slugging percentage is unmatched.
In the circle, Oklahoma's pitchers make up the top-3 in the conference for ERA with Hope Trautwein (0.13), Jordyn Bahl (0.80) and Nicole May (0.95), who are first, seventh and 11th in the country.
Wednesday will mark the 56th meeting between the two squads, with OU boasting a 45-10 lead in the series. Tulsa's dropped 11-straight against the in-state school with the last win coming on May 22, 2011 in Norman, 4-3. The Hurricane is 4-26 all-time in road games against the Sooners.
Tulsa does not have a conference game this weekend. Following Wednesday's game, TU will be back in action on Thursday, April 14 in Memphis, Tenn. when the Hurricane starts a series with the Memphis Tigers.
