Tulsa Qualifies Nine Runners for NCAA West Prelims in Fayetteville

TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa qualified nine runners for the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships, May 25-28, at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Tulsa runners will compete in five events including the men's 100-meters, men's 400m hurdles, men's 5,000m, men's 10,000m and the women's 3,000m steeplechase.
For the women, Layla Roebke and Katharina Pesendorfer each qualified for the 3,000m steeplechase after finishing one-two at last week's American Athletic Conference Championship. Roebke, who also claimed a win in the AAC's 5,000m, had a winning steeplechase time of 10:31.45, followed by Pesendorfer at 10:33.52.
On the men's side, the Hurricane will be represented with Josh Sutton in the 100m, Henry Visser in the 400m hurdles and four runners participating in the 5,000m and three in the 10,000m.
Michael Power, Scott Beattie, Isaac Akers and Peter Lynch will race in the 5,000m, while Beattie and Lynch will be joined by Cormac Dalton in the 10,000m.
At The American Championships, Tulsa claimed the first seven spots in the 5,000m as NCAA qualifiers Beattie, Akers and Lynch took the first three spots and Power finished in fifth place. Beattie clocked a winning time of 14:23.07. In the AAC's 10,000m race, Lynch crossed the finish line in a time of 30:54.92 to take the gold medal.
Visser set a school record at The American in the 400m hurdles with a second-place time of 51.48, while Sutton placed fifth in the 100m with a time of 10.22.
Qualifers from the two regional events – Fayetteville and Bloomington, Indiana – will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon.
