TULSA, Okla. –– The Golden Hurricane football team returned to the practice field Thursday morning after taking Wednesday off for Team Photo and Media Day. Tulsa had a 135-minute workout at Harwell Field in temperatures that reached 90-degrees with a heat index of 97.
"I thought the retention was great and energy level was really good," said Tulsa Head Coach Philip Montgomery. "They needed the day off yesterday and we took advantage of that. I thought our juice and energy was good today and we ended practice with those guys still wanting more."
"That's what I talked to them about … I want you hungry and want you to continue to work and strive. I thought we did a good job today taking more steps forward."
Montgomery discussed how the coaching staff has tweaked the last two practice sessions by practicing in helmets the first portion of the session before putting on shoulder pads.
"We have to monitor how much we're putting on them and how much their bodies can take, but you also have to get the work in and have to get used to the heat. All of that stuff matters, but at the end of the day we need them on the field practicing. If you're banged up and in the training room then we're not getting better. We have to be smart about it," added Montgomery.
Tulsa will be back on the practice field Friday morning.
Season ticket packages for the six-game home schedule range from $75 to $330 and can be purchased online at TulsaHurricane.com/tickets or by calling 918.631.4688.
