TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa football team put in its final practice of preseason camp on Saturday morning at H.A. Chapman Stadium with the second of two scrimmages.

Head Coach Philip Montgomery came off the field pleased with the Hurricane team after the Saturday morning workout.

"I was pleased. No. 1 we came out healthy. We were trying to be smart as to how we were playing guys with what rotations were going in. Our defense got off to a good start, the offense put in some good drives and scored on an early drive in the red zone," said Montgomery.

Montgomery talked about his team's building consistency and putting more emphasis on special teams early in the scrimmage.

"We just have to keep building. For us, more than anything it's about consistency of our play on both sides of the ball. We put in lot of special teams work early in the scrimmage that we needed from the standpoint of being more game-like. I was pleased with all that, and ready to look at the tape.

It was importance for Montgomery and the coaching staff to see younger guys getting more reps in today's scrimmage.

"We played a lot of younger guys today. Our starters played a little early, but a lot of guys who are battling for spots got a lot of reps today and our newcomers that are in their first camp had a lot of reps today. We wanted to be able to evaluate them with a lot of different looks and to keep building on what we're doing," Montgomery added.

Tulsa will be back on the practice field Tuesday.
