IOWA CITY, IOWA — Seniors Scott Beattie and Micheal Power of The University of Tulsa track and field team set meet and facility records Friday during the 3,000-meter Hawkeye Pro run at the Larry Wieczorek Invite.
Â
Beattie (7:50.10) and Power (7:50.12) finished the race within two-hundredths of a second of each other. Power, along with six other Golden Hurricane runners, finished the race with new personal-best times.
Â
Out of the 12 total runners in the race, 11 were TU athletes.
Â
"Even though the race consisted of nearly all Tulsa athletes, they executed a gritty, but disciplined race," said Head Track and Field Coach Steve Gulley. "We showed incredible depth, and it's a great sign for things to come."
Â
Junior Layla Roebke (4:46.60) finished on top of a competitive Mile Premier Run that featured nine Hurricane athletes and 37 total runners.
Â
Other first-place finishers for the Hurricane were Sean Korsmo (4:06.39) in the Mile Premier Run and Isaac Akers (4:06.39) in the Mile Hawkeye Pro Run. Wrapping up the meet on Saturday with Tulsa's fifth top finish was the women's 4x400 relay team (3:44.55), featuring Jayda Gibson, Anna Mager, Lianne Holtermann, and Elizabeth Roca.
Â
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, Jan. 28, to compete in Pittsburg State's Wendy's Invite.
