TULSA, Okla. — After six days of tough competition at the ITA Men's All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, action for Tulsa men's tennis concluded Thursday following a trio of consolation losses in the Main Draws of the tournament.

Overall, the seven men representing TU competed in 19 overall matches (13 singles matches and six doubles matches), went head-to-head against ten of the nation's top-ranked opponents and came away with two ranked victories throughout the tournament.

The first of Tulsa's ranked wins came from a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 win by freshman Alex Okonkwo over No. 80 Pawit Sornlaksup (Toledo). It was Okonkwo's first career match at the Case Tennis Center and the first ranked win for the Maidenhead, England, product.

Returning senior Volodymyr Zakharov, contributed Tulsa's second ranked victory of the tournament by besting No. 113 David Cierny (Oregon) in straight 6-4 sets.

Rounding out Tulsa's singles play success was returning sophomore Timothy Carlsson Seger. The Taby, Sweden, native shut down Virginia's Alexander Kiefer by a score of 7-5, 6-3. Kiefer was a member of the Cavaliers' national champion team from a year ago and was an All-NCAA Tournament Team selection for their No. 5 Singles position.

In doubles play, the pair of Pierce Rollins and Seger came away with two wins to advance to the Qualifying Doubles round of 16. The Tulsa duo grabbed consecutive tie-breaker victories, edging LSU's Welsh Hotard and George Stoupe 6-3, 3-6, [11-9] before narrowly defeating Edward Winter and Linus Carlsson Halldin 7-6, 3-6, [10-8]. Rollins and Seger fell 6-4, 6-3 to Wake Forest's Dhakshineswar Suresh and Holden Koons in the match that would have advanced them to the Main Doubles Draw.

Tulsa athletes are back in action next week at Oklahoma State's Cowboy Classic, running Oct. 13-15 in Stillwater.
