TULSA, Okla. –
The University of Tulsa true freshman quarterback Kirk Francis was named to the American Athletic Conference's weekly Honor Roll for his near record-setting performance on Saturday, the league office announced on Monday.

It was only Francis' second game appearance and it came against the nation's 20th-ranked Tulane Green Wave. The rookie responded with a performance that put the Golden Hurricane in a position to take down one of the country's top teams, only to fall by two points, 24-22.

Francis completed 64.7 percent of his passes (22-of-34) for 345 yards and one touchdown. His passing performance was just 41 yards shy of tying the school's freshman record for passing yards which was set in the 1987 season by T.J. Rubley with a 386-yard game at Oklahoma State. Francis had completions of 57 and 51 yards as well as an 8-yard TD toss for Tulsa's first score of the game.

In the final 4:43, Francis led Tulsa 67 yards for a score to bring the Hurricane to within two points.

Another Tulsa quarterback, redshirt freshman Cardell Williams was also named to The American's weekly honor roll as well as earning player of the week accolades earlier this season.

Tulsa will close out the home scheduled this Saturday with a 2 p.m. game against the North Texas Mean Green.
