The Tulsa women's basketball team dropped an 84-68 decision to Wichita State on Wednesday night at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kan.  The Golden Hurricane fell to 16-9 on the season and 6-6 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Shockers moved to 15-11 overall and 5-8 in the league.

"I thought we did a good job of coming back in the third quarter and making it a close game, but in the fourth quarter WSU got too many shots around the basket and that was the difference in the game," Head Coach Angie Nelp said.  "We have kids that work hard and will take this loss to heart and continue to improve."

"I thought we did a great job of sharing the ball.  We were able to put the ball on the floor and play fast.  I wish we would have shot a better percentage from the three, but we did see some threes go into the basket and we have to work to get that percentage back up to where it needs to be so we can be successful."

Delanie Crawford led the Tulsa attack for the second-straight game as she posted 17 points.  Temira Poindexter added 16, Maya Mayberry scored 12 and Maddie BIttle had 11.  Hadley Periman had a team-high four rebounds, Bittle and Katia Gallegos both had four assists, Mayberry had four steals and Poindexter had three blocks.

Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, February 18 against Memphis beginning at 1:00 pm at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

How It Happened
Wichita State jumped out to a 6-0 lead at the 6:56 mark of the first quarter, but Delanie Crawford scored five-straight points for TU to pull the Golden Hurricane within one at the 6:16 mark.  WSU inched ahead to a seven-point advantage (17-10) with 2:21 to play in the frame, but a three-pointer by Maddie Bittle made it a four-point difference at the end of the first 10 minutes.

Tulsa cut their deficit to three points twice in the second quarter, including a 26-23 score with 5:30 on the clock.  The Shockers, however, climbed to a 12-point advantage twice, including a 40-28 lead at halftime.

WSU's DJ McCarty hit a jumper to start the third quarter, but Tulsa went on a 12-0 run to pull to within two, 42-40, on a three-point basket by Crawford at the 7:12 mark.  The Shockers went back up by eight three times in the remainder of the third quarter but had just a four-point advantage (56-52) with 10 minutes to play.

The Shockers started the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run to take a 12-point lead, 66-54, with 6:50 to play in the contest.  TU pulled to within seven, 66-59, on a three pointer by Bittle and a layup by Poindexter with 4:34 remaining, but that was as close as they'd come falling 84-68 for the 16-point loss.
