TULSA, Okla. –– Giving Day 2023 was a monumental success for The University of Tulsa Athletics as the total fundraising efforts in one day generated over a 1,200 percent increase from a year ago.
The total dollars raised for athletics on April 4 was $205,607.00 from 389 gifts. Last year's total was $15,584 from 66 donors.
"I'm extremely grateful and appreciative to all the donors that made Giving Day 2023 a complete success. The increase in dollars raised and donors participating was overwhelmingly significant compared to just a year ago. This success would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work from our student-athletes, coaches, staff and development team," said Rick Dickson, Tulsa's vice president & director of athletics. "I'd like to give a special shout-out to our football student-athletes who stepped up and contributed."
"The impact of having so many supporters come together like this is immeasurable. Our teams and student-athletes will benefit greatly from this remarkable generosity."
This year's effort supported the Golden Hurricane Champions Fund and the Tulsa Academic Enhancement Award. A total of $148,013 was for the Champions Fund and $57,594 went to the new Tulsa Academic Enhancement Award for student-athletes.
The overall University Giving Day total amounted to $565,331 dollars raised and 1,339 donors, improving upon 2022 totals of $224,332 and 1,086 donors.
The Golden Hurricane Champions Fund is Tulsa's annual fund to help support TU athletics and its over 400 student-athletes with the rising cost associated with operating a competitive Collegiate Division 1 Athletics Program.
The Tulsa Academic Enhancement Award is a NEW opportunity and the latest addition to Tulsa Athletics and the Golden Hurricane Champions Fund's ongoing commitment to invest in the student-athlete experience and to continue to support a competitive program. These awards are now available to student-athletes as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in NCAA v. Alston, which allows The University of Tulsa to reward student-athletes for academic achievement up to $8,000 annually.
Fans can continue to support TU Athletics at two upcoming events as part of Hall of Fame Weekend, April 28-29, 2023.
