TU Athletics Closes out 2022-23 Season in Big Way

TULSA, Okla. –– The final week of April for athletics at The University of Tulsa was full of activities culminating the 2002-23 academic year with the annual Golden 'Cane Awards and Hall of Fame Weekend, which include both the Blue & Gold Champions Night and the TU Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
The Golden 'Cane Awards kicked off the week's activities on Tuesday, April 25, as the athletic and academic accomplishments of TU's student-athletes were recognized.
The night was highlighted by the announcement of this year's "Ultimate Team", an award recognizing one student-athlete from each sport who exemplifies leadership qualities throughout their team consistent with the mission and values of TU Athletics.

In addition, the Best Male and Female Athletes, Top Male and Female Newcomers, Dan Bitson Courage Award, Warren Garrison Academic Excellence Award, Christopher Anderson Classroom Grit Award, Hurricane Star Award, Reign 'Cane Award and the Dr. Barry Kinsey Faculty Athletics Representative Team Award winners were honored.
The Second Annual Blue & Gold Champions Night kicked off Hall of Fame Weekend on Friday night, April 28.
The event featured Las Vegas-style gaming, raffles, bingo, silent and live auction, and lots of food and drink, and the best of the King Cabbage Brass Band, fusing the popular New Orleans brass band style with an eclectic blend of pop, R&B, hip-hop, and funk. The Blue & Gold Champions Night supports the Golden Hurricane Champions Fund, which helps provide critical funding to help meet the rising costs associated with operating a top collegiate athletics program.

The 34th class of TU's Athletic Hall of Fame was inducted at Saturday night ceremonies. This year's group of inductees included five individual inductees and one Honor Team. Four All-Americans – volleyball athlete Tyler Henderson, track and cross-country star Alex Becker, tennis' Arnau Brugues and football punter Rick Engles – as well as former NFL head coach Ray Rhodes received induction into the Hall of Fame. The 1922 Undefeated and Untied Football Team was this year's Honor Team.
