TULSA, Okla.
–  The Tulsa women's soccer team battled back from a three-goal deficit to draw 3-3 with Kansas City on Sunday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer Stadium.  The Golden Hurricane moved to 2-6-2 on the season, while the Roos moved to 1-3-5 overall.

"The problem is that we put ourselves in a situation where 35 minutes into the game and we're down 3-0," Tulsa head coach Jim Rhein said. "It is unacceptable if we're going to go where we want to go. The positive we can take from it is, we competed hard enough in the second half we probably could have scored six or seven goals."

Freshman Kaylyn Simmons recorded a brace with a goal in the 35th minute and the game-tying goal in the 76th. The forward also drew a penalty, which Liliana Fernandez converted in the 66th minute to get Tulsa back within a goal.

Tulsa will return to action on Thursday, September 21 against SMU beginning at 7:00 pm in Dallas, Texas.

How it Happened
Brianna Castleberry put Kansas City on the board at the 21:26 mark off a pass from Sydney Maddox.  Castleberry shot from two yards out into the lower-left corner.

Gigi Mir put the Roos up 2-0 in the 34th minute as she shot from six yards out off a cross from Madison Page, and then just 65 seconds later Holland Hawkins gave KC a 3-0 lead as she shot up the middle from 16 yards out.

Kaylyn Simmons got one back for Tulsa at the 35:00 mark.  She punched in a forward pass from Quinn Turner and shot from 14 yards out into the lower left corner.

Liliana Fernandez pulled TU to within one at the 65:30 mark as she drilled in a penalty kick into the middle of the right side.

Kaylyn Simmons evened the score at the 75:09 mark on a rebound attempt taken by Giselle Urquiza.

Game Notes
  • Tulsa owned a 19-6 advantage in shots and 12 on target compared to Kansas City's three.
  • The Golden Hurricane earned six corners while limiting the Roos to one.
  • TU extended its unbeaten streak to four matches.
  • Kaylyn Simmons' brace gives her three goals in her freshman campaign.
