Tulsa Opens Road Series Against North Texas with 3-1 Win

DENTON, Texas — The Tulsa volleyball team entered the North Texas Volleyball Center Thursday and came out with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-21) win over the North Texas Mean Green in the first of two road matches in Denton, Texas. The Golden Hurricane improves to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in American Athletic Conference play, while North Texas drops to 9-8 overall and 3-1 in league action. 

"We settled in defensively, especially in the back row," said Head Coach Lauren Ramatowski. "North Texas is a very physical team, and it was a tough environment to play in so I am very proud of our girls for staying consistent and playing clean over time."
 
Graduate outside hitter Kayley Cassaday and sophomore Beth Bayless led the Tulsa attack. Cassaday knocked away 16 kills, while Bayless slammed down 12 kills. The pair combined for 82 of the Hurricane's 138 total attacks in the match. 
 
Senior setter Avery Kalsu passed the ball efficiently, putting up 35 assists at 8.75 assists per set. She also chipped in seven digs on the defensive side. 
 
The defensive effort was led by sophomore middle blocker Camryn Lingenbrink, who led the court with a block solo and eight block assists on the night. She helped Tulsa amass 12 blocks compared to the Mean Green's eight. Junior libero Marta Pecalli led the Hurricane with 10 digs. 
      
Game Notes        
» Camryn Lingenbrink led all blockers on the floor with eight block assists and one block solo. 
» Avery Kalsu had a court-leading 35 assists.  
» North Texas committed 29 attack errors, while TU committed only 16.  
» Avery Kalsu (6) and Brayden Hipp (3) had career-highs in service aces. 
» As a team, Tulsa had a season-high 13 service aces. 
       
How It Happened        
       
SET 1 | Tulsa jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but North Texas closed the gap and took over the lead at 8-7. From there, the Mean Green pulled away and took the first set 25-22. North Texas landed 17 kills to fuel their first-set win. 
       
SET 2 | TU responded with a 25-23 second set win to tie up the match at 1-1. Tulsa scored the first point and never gave up the lead in the stanza. The Hurricane led by as many as six points before closing out the set. Camryn Lingenbrink and Kayley Cassaday each had four kills in the set. 
       
SET 3 | Set three featured six tie scores and four lead changes. Tulsa grabbed the advantage at 11-10 and never looked back, cruising to a 25-19 third-set finish to lead the match 2-1. TU landed six service aces and three blocks in the set. 
 
SET 4 | The Hurricane never trailed in the fourth and final set of the match. Tulsa led by as many as five points at 16-11 before closing out the set 25-21 to seal the 3-1 victory.
