
Cooper Legas Named One of Eight Manning Award Stars of the Week

NEW ORLEANS –– The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, named Golden Hurricane quarterback Cooper Legas as one of its "Stars of the Week" for his performance in Tulsa's 46-45 Homecoming win over UTSA.
Tulsa football fans can follow the Manning Award on social media (@ManningAward) to vote Legas as the best performer this week. After voting closes on Wednesday at 9 a.m. CT, the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting. Since the Manning Award started recognizing Stars of the Week in 2011, 557 different quarterbacks from 134 schools have been recognized. Sixty-six players were honored during the 2023 season and 55 quarterbacks have been recognized so far in 2024.
Legas came off the bench and to throw for 331 yards and five touchdowns. He also led the TU rushing game with 46 yards on the ground. Legas found running backs Bill Jackson and Viron Ellison for touchdowns, while connecting with graduate wide receiver Kamdyn Benjamin three times in the win.
In the fourth quarter, Legas threw for 158 yards and three touchdowns. On the game-winning 92-yard drive, he connected on 4-of-6 attempts for 87 yards, capping the drive with a four-yard TD pass to Benjamin with 1:01 on the clock.
The other seven candidates for the Quarterback of the Week award are Max Brosmer (Minnesota), Taylen Green (Arkansas), Josh Hoover (TCU), Colton Joseph (Old Dominion), Fernando Mendoza (California) and Shedeur Sanders (Colorado).
