11/14/2024 3:13:00 PM | Cross Country
TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa cross country teams are set to compete in the NCAA Men's and Women's Midwest Regionals, hosted Friday by Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., on the Newman Golf Course. The women's 6K will commence at 11 a.m. Central with the men's 10K slated to follow at noon.
The entire meet will stream on ESPN+. Fans unable to attend the action in person can subscribe to ESPN+ to watch select Golden Hurricane cross country, volleyball, football, tennis, soccer, softball, and basketball games. ESPN+ is offered at $10.99/month or $109.99/year. To subscribe, go to plus.espn.com. Fans will be able to access ESPN+ content only after they have subscribed.
The top two men's and women's teams at Friday's regional will secure automatic bids to the NCAA Championships in Madison, Wis. The first four regional finishers not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team also secure an individual automatic bid to the championships. If a team doesn't earn an automatic bid, it will have to rely on the NCAA DI Cross Country Subcommittee to select it as one of the 13 at-large teams. Only two at-large individuals are selected as well.
The Golden Hurricane women are coming off one of their most brilliant team performances in recent memory after winning the American Athletic Conference Championship just two weeks ago. They seek their first regional title, with highest placement being second place in the 2019 Midwest Regional. The women last qualified for the NCAA Championships during the 2020-21 covid season.
The Tulsa men, who are receiving votes in the latest USTFCCCA team rankings poll, seek their third regional title in program history. Last year, the Hurricane finished third, just outside of automatic-qualifying territory, to end their season. Malte Propp and returners Charlie Krasnoff and Chris McLeod garnered All-Midwest Region honors. The men's squad captured the 2022 title by tiebreak over Oklahoma State and have since been looking for their way back to the NCAA Championship.
Racing for the women in Peoria will be Alicen Ashley, Chloe Hershenow, Sarah Hosey, Robyn Kowalski, Matilda Laidlaw and Ailey Mitchell.
Representing the men will be Luke Birdseye, Ben Brown, Jaden Forester, James Knockton, Luke Lambert, Shay McEvoy and Chris McLeod.
