Tulsa Softball at UNLV Rebel Classic This Weekend

LAS VEGAS, Nev. –– The Tulsa softball team heads to Las Vegas in the third weekend of action this season for the UNLV Rebel Classic, Friday-Sunday, Feb. 23-24.
Tulsa enters the tournament with a 5-4 record following appearances at the Texas A&M Aggie Classic and the Texas State Tournament.
The Golden Hurricane will begin Friday's action with an afternoon contest against Southern Utah at 2:30 p.m. (CT), followed by a nightcap against host UNLV at 8 p.m. (CT). On Saturday, Tulsa will face for the second time Southern Utah at 12 p.m. (CT) and follow that up against Santa Clara at 2:30 p.m. (CT).
Tulsa closes out tournament action on Sunday against UNLV at 3 p.m. (CT).
Tulsa and Southern Utah will be meeting for the first time. Although Tulsa and UNLV haven't played since 2013 the Rebels hold a 15-3 record in the series. Tulsa and Santa Clara have battled twice previously in back-to-back games of the 2015 season as Tulsa won both meetings.
In nine games, Tulsa is hitting .292 with 70 hits, 41 RBI and a .404 slugging percentage. Left fielder MacKenzie Denson leads the way with a .433 batting average and .533 slugging percentage, followed by shortstop Imani Edwards .345 average, while center fielder Haley Morgan hits .300 and second baseman Abby Jones comes in with a .296 average.
On the mound, Tulsa has used four pitchers with more than 10 innings pitched. Junior Maura Moore leads the way with 20 innings, 18 strikeouts and a 2-2 record, while freshman Anneca Anderson is next with 14.1 innings pitched, a 2-0 record and a 3.14 ERA. Senior Kylee Nash has pitched 12 innings and has a team-best 2.77 ERA. Transfer Alex Hopkins has also pitched double-digit innings with 10.2.
Tulsa will open the home season next weekend for the TU/OSU Invite, hosting Seattle, Drake, Kansas City and Miami (Ohio), Saturday-Sunday, March 2-3.
