Softball Kicks Off 2024 Season at Texas A&M’s Aggie Classic

TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa softball team opens up the 2024 campaign this weekend with five games at the Aggie Classic in College Station, Texas.
Tulsa comes into the season with 17 letterwinners and eight seniors returning to the roster. The Golden Hurricane lineup returns all four infield and three outfield starters, as well as its top two pitchers.
The Hurricane begins play Friday morning against Valparaiso with the first pitch scheduled for 10 a.m., and follows that with a 12:30 p.m. contest against Lehigh.
Valpo posted just eight wins a year ago, while Lehigh recorded their sixth 40-win season in program history, finishing 40-14, and knocking off No. 7/9 Alabama.
Tulsa will play Valpo again on Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. scheduled start time, followed by the nightcap at 6:30 p.m. against host Texas A&M. Tulsa and the Aggies will play a second game on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
Tulsa has a 1-0 series record with Valpo as the last meeting came in the 2008 season. This will be the first meeting between Tulsa and Lehigh, while Texas A&M holds a 16-3 series advantage against the Hurricane.
As the season gets underway, Tulsa will be looking from the onset to establish consistency in all phases of the game.
"What I'm looking for in these first four weeks is to see a team that makes the consistent routine plays. We have the ability to make some WOW plays too, but you just don't want to be a team that makes the WOW play and not the routine play.
"Minimizing other team's opportunities is something we did really well to finish last season, and we need to start off that way this year," said Tulsa Head Coach Crissy Strimple.
