Tulsa Softball Takes Down Iowa State 5-1

TULSA, Okla. – Abby Jones went deep in the third inning for a three-run shot to propel Tulsa to a 5-1 win against the Big 12's Iowa State Cyclones Tuesday night at the Collins Family Softball Complex. Tulsa improved to 16-7 overall, while Iowa State fell to 9-14 on the season.
Jones had the one hit, while Maura Moore allowed just three hits and a last inning run to pace the Golden Hurricane attack. Tulsa had six hits, while Moore struck out five batters for the game. Moore improved to 6-3 on the season with her third complete game.
Iowa State loaded the bases in the first inning with two outs on a double, walk and hit-by-pitch before Moore got Carli Spelhaug to pop-up to short.
Tulsa scored its first run in the second inning when Celeste Woods single to right field scored Kennedy Cramer from second base as the Hurricane took a 1-0 lead after two innings.
With two outs in the third, Imani Edwards walked and Claira Skaggs was hit-by-pitch before Jones cleared the wall in center field for her third home run of the year to put the Hurricane ahead 4-0. Tulsa loaded the bases again in the inning before the third out, closing out the third with three runs on three hits.
ISU loaded the bases again in the fourth, but Moore got pinch hitter Paige Nakshima to ground out to Edwards for the double play.
Tulsa added a run in the bottom of the fourth as Skaggs single scored Haley Morgan from third base for a 5-0 lead.
Moore retired the side in innings 5 and 6 before the Cyclones scored its lone run on in the final inning.

• Tulsa improved to 16-7 overall and 13-7 in non-conference action.
• Abby Jones had her team-high third home run of the season with a 3-run shot in the 3rd inning.
• Maura Moore pitched her third complete game and improved her record to 6-3.
• Haley Morgan has now had a hit in nine straight games
The Golden Hurricane will return to American Athletic Conference action with a weekend series against South Florida at the Collins Family Softball Complex. Friday's game starts at 5 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m. All three games can be seen on ESPN+
