TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa softball team took down UAB 5-3 on Saturday afternoon to complete the series sweep at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
The Golden Hurricane (22-11, 8-4 The American) built an early lead and was able to maintain it with timely pitching and defense. The Blazers (14-21, 5-8) homered for the second time this series and had a few late opportunities but could not find a way to tie the game.
Kylee Nash (7-2) got the start and the win. She pitched 4.1 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with a strikeout. Maura Moore came on in relief in the fifth inning, tossing the final 2.2 innings and allowing just two hits while striking out a pair.
Abby Jones tripled in three runs and later scored in the win. It was her third triple of the season. Haley Morgan also picked up an RBI single. MacKenzie Denson and Imani Edwards each had a pair of hits in the win.

Tulsa struck first in the bottom of the opening frame. Imani Edwards singled and then stole second to get into scoring position with one out. Haley Morgan drove a base hit up the middle, brining Edwards in for the game's first run.
UAB responded in the top of the second with three straight singles to tie the game. After a passed ball, the Blazers had runners on second and third with nobody out. Kylee Nash then forced three consecutive ground balls, none enough to bring a runner home, to escape the inning. The defensive stand was highlighted by a Claira Skaggs play at third. Playing in, she snagged a hard-hit ground ball and tagged the runner at third who was too far off the bag.
The Hurricane regained its advantage in the third inning. MacKenzie Denson and Imani Edwards singled to lead things off. Skaggs moved them over with a ground out and then Morgan was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Senior second baseman Abby Jones stepped in and on the first pitch ripped a line drive down the right field line. All three runners scored and Jones finished with a stand-up triple. A wild pitch brought in Jones and Tulsa held a 5-1 lead after three.
UAB got its final runs of the game in the fifth inning. A one-out walk brought in Lindsey Smith, who smashed a home run to cut the Tulsa lead to 5-3. The Blazers continued to threaten in the inning. Back-to-back walks ended Kylee Nash's afternoon and brought in Maura Moore. She forced a pop out and then struck out a batter to end the inning.
