TULSA, Okla. – The Golden Hurricane softball team exploded for 13 runs in a 13-2 win in five innings over Missouri State in the Collins Family Softball Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
Tulsa (23-11) put up runs in every inning, scoring five in the first, two in the second, one in the third and five more in the fourth. The Bears (8-23) took the lead with a home run with the first at-bat of the contest, but only collected one more hit the rest of the way.
Alexa Hopkins (1-3) got the start and the win on Wednesday. The junior spun 3.0 innings of two-hit ball. She allowed just one run and walked a pair. Anneca Anderson came on in relief and worked 1.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts and no hits. Kaiya Luneckas and Maura Moore also made appearances in the circle.
Nine different Hurricane combined for 14 hits on Wednesday. Kailyn Bearpaw and Haley Morgan each had three. Morgan scored twice and drove in one with a pair of doubles, while Bearpaw homered and had a team-leading four RBI in the win. Claira Skaggs also had a multi-hit performance, including a monster home run over the roof of the softball offices past right field. She finished with three driven in. Emma Vickrey drove in a run with a base hit and Danielle Burns collected her first hit as a Golden Hurricane, driving in two runs with a line drive past the second baseman.

It was the Bears who struck first on Wednesday as the first batter took Alexa Hopkins deep for a home run to go ahead 1-0. The junior responded by allowing just one hit and no more the runs the rest of her game.
In the bottom of the frame, the Hurricane responded in a big way. Haley Morgan doubled with one out and Imani Edwards got to third and advanced home after the right fielder's cutoff throw got away. After a wild pitch moved Morgan to third, she scored after Claira Skaggs singled to right. Maci Cole singled with two outs to keep the inning alive for Kailyn Bearpaw, who thanked her with a three-run home run off the scoreboard in left center as Tulsa went up 5-1 after one.
Tulsa did its damage in the second inning with two outs. Morgan doubled for the second time to bring up Skaggs. The third baseman, who had an incredible game with her glove in the field, smashed a towering two-run home run off the top of the roof of the building just past the right field wall to improve Tulsa's advantage to 7-1 entering the third.
TU added an eighth run in the third inning. Bearpaw singled and then advanced on a groundout to the pitcher. Catcher Emma Vickrey delivered her second RBI of the season with a single to score Bearpaw from second and put the Hurricane ahead 8-1.
The offense put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fourth. Edwards tripled to lead things off. A single from Morgan down the left field line was more than enough to bring Edwards home and put the game in run-rule territory. Bearpaw drove in another run with a single. After a walk loaded the bases, Anneca Anderson, who was pitching, came in to hit and was hit by a pitch herself, driving in the third run of the inning.
With the bases still loaded, junior Danielle Burns stepped in for the first time this season. Burns liked the second pitch she saw and hit a sharp line drive past the second baseman into right center, scoring two as Tulsa's lead bloomed to 13-1.
Missouri State got a run back with two outs in the top of the fifth. However, Maura Moore was able to force a popup to end any further damage with the bases loaded and Tulsa secured the win.
