TULSA, Okla. — It'll be a busy weekend for the Tulsa men's tennis team as the Golden Hurricane is set to host the Drake Bulldogs (8-4) at noon and the North Dakota Fighting Hawks (3-11) at 6 p.m. in a doubleheader Friday, March 8. Then on Sunday, March 10, Tulsa will take on the UCF Knights at 10:30 a.m. All three matches are free to attend at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Tulsa and Drake will engage in the 10th meeting in an overall series that Tulsa has dominated 9-0. Every match so far has been played in Tulsa.
Drake is currently 8-4 on the year. The Bulldogs enter Friday coming off consecutive 5-2 wins at home over Wichita State and on the road at North Dakota last week.
Nationally ranked for the Bulldogs is doubles tandem Oliver Johansson and Matija Matic, who are No. 61 in the latest ITA poll, six spots behind Tulsa's Pierce Rollins and Timothy Carlsson Seger at No. 55. On the courts, Johansson and Matic are 8-2 together at the No. 1 position.
This is the second meeting all time between Tulsa and North Dakota. Previously, Tulsa grabbed a 6-1 decision at home over the Fighting Hawks.
UND is off to a 3-11 start this season with losses in six of their last seven outings. In their last three matches, they fell 5-2 to Drake, suffered a 4-3 heartbreaker to Montana and took down Marquette 5-2, all at home.
Five Fighting Hawks have one win apiece in singles, and as a team, are 5-19 across all completed singles matches. UND has yet to find a doubles win as the Fighting Hawks are 0-10 this year in doubles action.
Sunday will mark the 18th meeting between Tulsa and UCF, who used to be part of The American before joining the Big 12 over the summer. Tulsa leads the all-time series 10-7.
Last year, the teams split wins as Tulsa grabbed a 4-1 win over the Knights during ITA Kickoff Weekend with UCF retaliating with a 4-2 decision on April 16.
The 34th-ranked Knights are 11-1 overall this season. Their only loss this year came in a 6-1 road decision at Florida.
UCF's roster features one ranked doubles tandem. At No. 60 in the latest ITA rankings, Lleyton Cronje and Santiago Giamichelle are 2-2 together atop the lineup.
Senior Pierce Rollins and sophomore Timothy Carlsson Seger remain at No. 55 in the latest ITA doubles poll for a second consecutive week. The duo competed together in the fall and have held the top spot in the lineup since the Arkansas match on February 21. They continue to hold TU's best doubles record of 7-4. As a team, Tulsa ranks No. 67.
