Tulsa Football Spring Practices Coming to Close

TULSA, Okla. –– Spring practice for the Tulsa football team is winding down as the Golden Hurricane had its spring game on Saturday afternoon and will conclude its 15 spring practices with two workouts this week.

"We had a combined practice and scrimmage on Saturday. Without being a long practice, we tried to get some kicking fundamentals, individual work, situational passing and little tackling. We wanted to come out healthy, and we did," said Tulsa Head Coach Kevin Wilson.

"We have a lot of work to do but I think we've done a better job of playing physical, staying off the ground and tackling. We're stronger, healthier and we're learning how to play tougher, and we're taking care of ourselves."

Wilson, in his second spring as the Hurricane head coach, talked about focusing on individual development during the spring.

"It's a different mode right now," said Wilson. "We have 17 signees coming in May and April 15 starts the transfer portal, so if guys want to leave they can. I'm not going to encourage them to leave but they have the right to, and we have the right to bring other guys, so I don't think the team is actually a team until the end of May or first of June. Right now it's a lot about individual development, getting our guys stronger, and each coach trying to gain some confidence in their kids."

Wilson has been pleased with the progress the Golden Hurricane has made this winter and spring.

"We've done a lot of development and I think we've grown immensely. There's a lot of team work that we've done, but it's been more about individual development right now, said Wilson. "We have a good vibe. I think we know the guys better, they know us better and there's much better chemistry and camaraderie."
