Tulsa Track and Field Concludes Outdoor Season at NCAA West First Rounds

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Tulsa outdoor track and field teams concluded the 2024 season in the NCAA West First Rounds at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Six runners represented the Golden Hurricane Wednesday through Saturday in their quest for earning a spot in the NCAA Championships (June 5-8).

The veteran duo of redshirt junior Chris McLeod and senior Malte Propp kicked off the action Wednesday night in the 10,000-meter semifinal, where Propp would place 28^th at 29:45.96 and McLeod 37^th at 30:27.96.

Reigning American Athletic Conference champion in the 5,000 and 10,000-meters Chloe Hershenow was next in the 10,000-meter semifinal on Thursday. She finished 18th of 48 runners in 34:57.59, just six spots outside top-12 to qualify for the national meet in June.

Friday saw two Tulsa men take on long-distance events. Senior Christian Baker finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase quarterfinals at 9:28.60 for 45^th, while senior Shay McEvoy cruised to a 14:18.97 finish for 13^th in heat two and 23^rd overall in the 5,000-meter semifinal.

Redshirt senior Katharina Pesendorfer, who took home the AAC steeplechase crown, rounded out the week's action in the steeplechase quarterfinals. In the second heat, Pesendorfer held firm in a front-runner group of 10 runners for the first 6:30 of the race until the leading five athletes pulled away in the final stretch. Pesendorfer would finish seventh in heat No. 2 and 24th overall.
