Tulsa Drops Midweek Game in Springfield

4/22/2025 7:40:00 PM | Softball

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Golden Hurricane softball team was shutout 6-0 by the Missouri State Bears on Tuesday evening in Meador Park.

Tulsa falls to 19-27 on the season, while Missouri State improves to 15-30. The Hurricane dropped both meetings against the Bears this and both by the same score.

Maura Moore (13-14) spun 3.1 innings in the Tuesday loss, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out three. Alexa Hopkins pitched the final two and two thirds innings. She allowed one run and gave up one hit, striking out a trio of batters.

Maci Cole singled in the third to extend her hitting streak to 18 games. Annika Dill had a pair of hits and Paige Knight collected Tulsa's other hit on the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Moore kept the Bears off the board through the first three innings. However, Tulsa also struggled to find its way on offense. TU's best opportunity came in the top of the fourth after back-to-back singles from Dill and Knight lead the frame. A sacrifice bunt moved both into scoring position, but Missouri State got consecutive strikeouts to end the threat.

The Bears punished Tulsa in the bottom of the frame for failing to score at the top. Missouri State opened with a pair of singles and then loaded the bases on a fielder's choice where TU failed to record an out. Another single brought in the first run of the game. After a strikeout, Chloe Merced hit a grand slam to center field, giving the Bears a 5-0 advantage after four.

Missouri State added a sixth run in the fifth. An error and one-out single, followed by a hit batter loaded the bases. The next batter grounded out to Aliya Scarborough at third, but it was enough to score the runner from third and give MSU a 6-0 lead.

After the promising fourth inning, the final nine Golden Hurricane were retired in order.
